people always expect huge revolution...it happen sometimes but most of the time the change are very little and subtile...
By now there is some minimal tune (like noisia - diplodocus, or Lynx - disco dodo and of course instra:mental) that come after years of huge maximal stuff...
I think most of the change will be pieces by pieces and in the end in about 5 years dnb will have totally change (but most of the producers will still copycat of course : it's dance music !!!)

The whole problem i thing : it's that dnb used to be a strategy : you take sliced breakbeat and you put everything you want on it... now it perhaps a little bit narrow minded in subgenre style... but in the end it's still the better dance music to party (with breakcore and dubstep)...

I think the problem is to stop moaning on pseudoglorious past and stuff... be the change that you wanna hear imo !!!

well, the new London Elektricity album shows it's definitely not dead. and so does everyone who can just slow down a bit and leave some space in the music. I really like many tunes being produced nowadays.

respect out to chris & leo, you've always inspired me & your music always moved me beyond words
thanks ocr - it was me (chris) who wrote that.

can't agree with this post ^ more. I think dubstep has done a great job of reintroducing the idea of space, and the value of silence into stuff like d&b and we're starting to see a gradual pay-off.

And just for the record, that blogpost was nothing more than a happy, excited expression of the fact that lots of different things are happening in d&b - it's not some stupid manifesto or anything

classic tune...

OT

dnb was the first electronic music that really kicked me in the nuts. started DJing because of it. but it became more and more boring to me because (in germany) the DJs kept playing the same styles (not just jumpup or clownstep) and did not play the harder styles that I prefer.
the whole dnb scene is lacking of good new music that's fitting my personal taste (except some offkey or related stuff). I don't think that the quality level is (getting) so low how everybody keeps saying these days...

it's just the whole music (and the people listening to it...) doesn't fit my taste the way it did 5 years ago...

its great to see one of the handful of producers i really rate, not have any bitterness about the dubstep sound. i have a lot of your tunes in my crates, and they are close to my chest too. welcome :)

it also really kills me inside a little to listen to the top ten dnb records on redeye's chart for example, and to see what the general public is buying and therefore supporting. some of those records on that chart are really musically stupid....in the sense that you can expect every single thing about to happen in them. you know...ok..here's the incoming drop...here's the drop out...here's the 2nd drop....here's the outro.

if you listen to no u turn, cert 18, early moving shadow, early metalheadz, 31 records or early dillinja it was fucking masterful music, where you didn't have any idea what was around the corner in a tune. complete mindfuck business.

everytime i talk to someone really bitter about dubstep, especially if they're from the dnb scene as of late, i always refer to two of my all time favorite jungle records, in a sort of homage to the most incredible music on the planet at one time. these tunes still give me very vivid flashbacks and memories. somewhere along the way it got lost, and it really pains me to say that.

arcon 2 " the beckoning" circa 1997
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoYKvnpvubc

peshay "the nocturnal" circa 1996
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg5IHudKBKg

^^out to jungle music, my old friend, when it was still fucking thunderous, unpredictable and groundbreaking.

a friend and i were reminiscing recently about old jungle, and we came up with a theory that the moment jungle stopped sampling sax lines and flutes, it all went to shit. lol.

bring back the sax lines!!
