Renoise all the way.

Plug-ins:
Phosycon (a 303 emulator)
Drumazon (a 909 emulator)
Nepheton (an 808 emulator)
Rapture (soft synth)

I do all the required editing/splicing/whatev's in Renoise's audio editor.

I have Ableton but I don't use it for production, but it'll be used for DJ'ing and performance.

Ableton 7

For starting tunes, at least, it can't be bettered, IMHO. Although I've not tried Reason so could be wrong. Used to use Cubase and FL studio but Ableton works better for me overall.

Favourite plugins:

Massive (true to its name)
Reaktor (a headache but worth it if you're into sound design)
PSP Vintagewarmer (quality emulation of an analogue limiter)

For years I used Cubase VST (OS9 in the house!!!)...

and still did until a couple months ago. Now I switched to Live 7... pretty much for the sole purpose of having a good workflow and understanding of it by the time Live 8 rolls around. Took a bit of getting used to, but now I really like it.

Adobe Audition eh? I use an MPC and Ableton Live (and the amazing FAW Circle synth) for my stuff, but I've had a bit of an itch with Live as far as mixdowns etc, been looking for a super minimal sequencer to arrange and apply compression, eq plugins etc. in. Is audition any good? Acid looks alright. Audition has a pretty cosmic spectral analyser, and you know music is all about the looks!
Use reaper! Kind of free too!
I use ableton and i am doing my mixdowns in cubase.

Why on earth do you need TR emulators when Renoise ships with its own versions?

These sound waaaaaaay better than Renoise's samples, more tweakable and you can automate the settings using the automation device. But yeah, most of all, they just sound so much better.
