I think most (even ALL) softwares permit to seize digital values with the keyboard... Even VST's...
My Sound [-o-] Yes, it's THAT good. So click, b-tard.

I just placed my monitor on a box, thus raising it by 4 inches.

It is perfect now, placed only 15 inches away from my face. Square eyes here I come! :D

Re: Using colour within Daws.

I also colour everything differently, usually in the colours of the rainbow.

I am starting to create and name tracks before I even begin the production process. I usually know where the tune is going to go before I even switch on the computer, so this makes it easier to focus on creating the exact sounds I want.

In Reason, I name the contents of all my Combinator patches according to their function.

Osc # = any sound source synth/sampler
Insert # = any insert efx attached directly to the osc devices
Submixer = Submixer! :D
Send # = any send efx attached to the submixer
M Insert # = any inserts that come after the submixer (usually extra eqing and compression)

Developing a standard workflow and naming conventions makes working on both new and old material faster and easier.

I must have OCD because I have to do this with every project:

1) I have a custom shade of grey in Logic, which I colour all my tracks.

2) I remove all my layer names (as in "audio 01") and replace them with a space bar so it appears that they do not to have a name.

3) Then I select all my sounds which are now a buetiful shade of grey and press "shift alt N" so all my audio files in the arrangment view have no name also.

4) Then I go to media view and name all the audio elements in numerical order like so:
001
002
003
004
etc

5) spend up to an hour getting automation spot on to the beat. Followed by another hour lining up all sounds to the grid.

...I feel like rain man. :o

FX = purple
Wow that is way to organized for me in Ableton but i will try that.. Want to ride a bike?
I usually do all drums one colour, VST intstruments another colour, samples another. Your method is on some next preciseness lol
Can i get screen shoot. I bet the arrangement view is really purrty..

wow, I'm not the only one then! my current situation...

-hunched back
-in dire need of a piss
-bare cigarette ash on my laptop
-1.30 am and wired
-having to relocate samples every time I open a reason file
-just returned from an 'outside my door listen'
-on here instead of actually producing
-worse than giving them stupid names, naming unfinished tunes by date...

however, having just moved apartment I don't want to risk my new flatmate catching me having a secret brockout, hahaha. difficult enough trying to explain that to my family, let alone a chinese girl who can't really understand me :|

This gets me, what is the point in this, how do I ever think I'll find it? I might as well call every tune Document 1.

Same problems as most people, I guess... Also, forgetting to eat whilst getting really into a tune and then feeling really dizzy when getting up to go listen outside is a problem...

Not properly coloring or labeling my tracks. Before you know it I've got 10 different versions of a bassline and I don't know what is what.

Mainly forgetting to back stuff up, and getting high and thus having lowered standards for what sounds good. I've found it's best to do tunes with a relatively clear mind.

I'm also a whore for arranging, colouring and naming my tracks. For some reason though, I never name, arrange or colour my bus(s)es/return tracks. Keeps me on my toes... -t-

This.

For some reason, coming up with track titles is the hardest thing for me...
