i talked with someone today who actually cast a ballot for the grammys
he was a recording engineer with credits on someone's commercial release (pretty much the prerequisites for membership to the committee)
he said that the general awards, i.e. best album, best female artist blah blah blah, etc, are pretty much a sham, but there are a second set of awards called craft awards or something
and they are basically those members voting on one another's craftsmanship
i.e. "best mix engineer", "best performance on a record" (for session players) and things of that nature
sounds marginally more interesting than the general awards
