It's a reese I made in massive with a sub layer, and a top layer using foley. The base reese was made using saw and I can't remember what other type of wavetable in massive. The sub was a basic sine, and the top was some type of crinkly, crunchy type sound. Something that has very sharp upper freq content.
There are a lot of great contributions to this thread that got me to this point. That's where you'll find the detailed posts about 'things to consider' when doing sound design. It's hard to say EXACTLY how I made that b/c the massive patch and FX chain were modulating the crap out of whatever melody I made for a 4 bar section. I also resampled it like once or twice, I forget but therein I automated a LOT of parameters in the sampler, and added FX in processing.
So the bottom line is all the details of what detune settings, filter settings, etc are all subject to taste. The one important thing to keep in mind while automating parameters is to try and do it so as to enhance or compliment the movement in the sound.
Cheers

Made in Harmor without resampling, this reese is one live patcher preset, it also eats 20 percent of my CPU. Soundcloud
Sorry for the terrible mix I just wanted it to be in context with drums and such.

very nice. care to explain your chain?
heres something I put together quickly today. Can't wait till I have time to work on this :p
I was making a reese in massive yesterday, but then after a few minutes my gf was snoring and it sounded just like the reese I made, so I recorded her and layered it with the reese and added a foley sound of me gurgling.

I thought this was a joke for a second till I played the soundcloud link and I was dying in knots haahah this is so great besides the fact your gf snores.
You can sample anything and make something.

Big! This is the sound I'm after. Care to elaborate?
Yeah, I won't have much time today or tomorrow but I'll try to post something within the next few days.

Worked on an old bass that I made using FM8. I have took a long break from using FM for reeses and I've realised that my old basses which were made using FM sound a lot more unique and original. Of course that is only because I personally prefer using FM for basses haha.
I might layer a foley sample on top for a nicer high end.

sounds good bro. I like how most of your reeses sound. Care to elaborate?

1:07( twisty god reese) Listen to the rest of the song. It pretty gr9
Heres a thing I am working on, lots of reeses.
Someone said it reminds them of Kursa so there is that.

Okay, I've just found this. Seriously. The bass that comes in at 0:55.
This is probably one of the crunchiest, cleanest, most bilious reeses I have ever heard.
Where would I even start? I can get so many different textures including textures that are perfect for Neuro but I have never been able to get this type of texture. It sorta sounds like a classic DNB reese that has been tampered with.
HELP

I hate to say it but it sounds like m-talk phase modulation and a phaser.

Hmm I honestly doubt it. If you can make it using Modern Talking I would be happy to agree:)

I no longer have Massive. I can try to remake it with Sytrus or Harmor though.

Hey guys its me again!
I decided to go back to my roots and stick to the plugin I'm most comfortable with (FM8) and create this monster sound. The initial patch consists of a single soft square wave carrier with two saw wave ops modulating it which are further modulated by Formant 8 waves. I then did some classic EQ modulation as you would for growl sounds (low peak, notch, high peak), bounced to audio and resampled in Harmor.
In Harmor I added Unison on a setting of 2 voices with only very slight pitch spread and a medium amount of stereo spread. I added chorus but reduced the Width so the sound wasn't completely stereo and weak and added the log distortion to a reasonable amount.
A good tip is to use the burning setting under the compression area of Harmor's effects and increase each frequency range until it sounds good. I don't know what it does but it sounds pretty nice.
I repeated this a few times and added different filters and such for the wobbly bits.
I think the highs may be too harsh but I can still work on it. I could maybe shelf the highs off and add a foley sound.
For foley sounds I think it is best to layer the foley mid-way through the resampling stage. That way, when you add filters and effects, the foley sound will also be effected which sounds more natural and makes it fit better with the original sound.
Feedback will be appreciated:)
Thanks!
EDIT: Just realized how similar it sounds to the video I posted. The reese in the video is a lot cleaner sounding and crisp however.
