does swamp and shit count as 130? that would change things obv. like the benton stuff or boddika.

oh, I thought 130 was just slowed down grime with all the soul taken out of it, like keysound

c'mon keysound is the label for this sort of shit. everything else is derivative. and i don't mean that in a bad way (although there is some bait shit floating around). it's just that so far the best and most important material from this scene came from the keysound camp.

and imo the distinction between 130 and other similar stuff is based on aesthetics, rather than the music itself. if it came from grime and uk funky directly, then it's 130. swamp, night slugs and the like don't fit into this. they were once affiliated, yes, but that was a long time ago and have since incorporated a wider range of influences.
the confusion lies in the fact that there's this space in which all these different micro scenes co-exist, maybe influencing each other in some manner.

yea this is it really, that whole camp have that focus on trying to be part of a direct lineage from hardcore through dubstep or whatever

which is what initially attracted me to it but have to say i find a bit single-minded now

idk

Beneath is an absolute don

That PAN release and the No Symbols are classic bits.

Also @jags listen to some Riz La Teef mixes if you haven't already, as well as being a serial badman & safe guy his mixes provide a good snapshot of '130' (if you wanna call it that) + a fair bit of stuff outside of Keysound if you're after that too. + can't deny there is energy there

i do enjoy the riz mixes. don't get me wrong, i like the stuff. but there's not as much energy there. and that's not necessariliy a bad (or good) thing.

also, i think everyone missed this:

lost codes and glacial sound are more grime
livity could hardly be lumped in with this
uttu only got a handful of releases in this vein
tri angle are only marginally related. let's not forget they were releasing bait witch house a couple of years ago
ramp released like what? two records from visionist and filter dread. so you could hardly say the label is involved in this scene
