Thing with Sophie is it sounds all sugary but is kind of fucked up. Bipp was weird whilst being really catchy and upbeat it makes it feel kind of off which is the appeal for me. Hard goes way further with it to the point it's totally fucked up. It's definitely not goofy like it's raining men at all with it's crazy noisy percussion underneath the pitched up vocals talking about latex and pvc and shit. So bizarre.

I've seen him about 6+ in the last few years and it's always been creative and disorientating, exactly as he explains in that interview above.

For someone who has played with Merzbow, you seem to struggle with the concept of noise music.
I personally have no problem with someone trying to destroy ears/speakers, probably my favourite producer (Deadfader) aims to do exactly that.

He likes sirens. He tries to come at them from a noise music perspective. He did an entire siren set at a Berlin gallery not too long ago.

@wubstep I can understand when he does something like the 'wall of sirens' or similar noise experiments live, fair enough.

But hi-passing tunes at random moments and occasionally hitting a siren sample off with bare delay isn't really 'live'. If he was restructuring the tunes/mashing them up it'd be sick but tbh most times i've seen The Bug live its been essentially a live PA for the vocalists with more FX on & inbetween the tunes.

Sometimes its gone off & was one of the best things i've seen (Koko last year), sometimes it's been awful (Subdub this year)

sophie's tunes are like marmite, youre gonna find them fun and weird in an appealing way or just pure annoying shit. totally depends on the person
