I dont know why, but i got the same feeling listening to the intro as I do when i listen to 16 bit's Machine Gun remix. So I expected a sick drop, and I'm sorry to say, it kinda let me down.
If I were you, I would change that wobble completly, and resample a sick ass bass, with a downward ramp wobble, kinda like this:

But with a "meaner" bass. But that is just my opinion, dunno if you like it or not

i made a bass exactly like that a while ago, and i sent it to bevoh cause i didnt feel like makin a song with it, i never though i would but im getting kinda tired of all the same sounding filth shit or robotic shit, its too easy to make and gets old, so idk im just tryin new things. thanks for feedback though man.

@ Dubmikey - i like the track. the drums and bass movement is pretty cool. i can say that the mix sounds a little dull, but its probably because you didn't really eq/mix yet. other than that, maybe try to add some variation to the sound of your bass with either automating certain parameters or maybe just throwing in a different bass all together during some parts.

@ Bevoh - i like the ideas you got with the track but maybe try switching up the first part of your bass line every other break like after the breathing between ur bass lines. sorry i just explained that terribly, but it just seems a bit repetitive. oh and i have a problem with this too but try to add some transitions that make each part come together as one with more flow. easier said than done though.

@ Skyhigh - yeah i admit it doesn't have great energy. i knew that before even posting it. i don't think its a problem with my mix in particular though. i think its just lacking some elements such as a lead synth, some atmospherical sounds, some drum and bass variation, and i just need to add more blips and whatever to spice it up. oh and i will play with the attack, sustain, etc like you said, i really didnt play with those much yet. thank you for the criticism though, i will definitely attempt to bring some energy in the track with those elements that i have discussed.

@ Rando - thanks for your input dude! that gives me a little hope for this track for sure. and i already did boost my snare at about 225hz for some punch and i cut at about 225hz from my bass. maybe i should boost more at around 175-200hz? and add some compression? i usually do that later but i might as well try it now. also, what do you mean by stereo seperated reverb? i do have some light reverb on my snare as is but im not sure if im over thinking the term or not but im just not sure what it is... sorry for my dumb question haha.

oh and rando btw, im lovin your WIP in your sig, i commented in your soundcloud instead of here. but it sounds amazing. loving the sample too. thats the style of dubstep i wish i could make. but for some reason all my songs always end up sounding a bit more old school and dark. instead of heavy and broey. maybe by the time i learn to make some good "brostep" (hate using that term lol) it will be out of style so then i will still be making old school style dubstep always one step behind...im ok with it.

@RandoRando love the intro melody, great drum programming, not sure if its a groove that's danceable but you may not be going for that, bass sounds slightly hollow

(current WIP) cool vocal sample, love the first section, but when it hits that second section, I wish the phrase was just repeated once not 4x or that bass sound needs to change quite a bit to keep my interest

@blinkesko great track and melodies throughout, weird volume issues going on, some parts are so much quieter, mainly the glitch bass part then the lead sounds come in and it over powers everything

@bevoh really creepy vocal samples, super heavy track, face melting stuff, the break seems a bit void, I wish there was some sort of unique sound design going on there

As for your track, i really like it. Respect to you, cus it's hard to pull off minimal vibe tracks without them sounding like crap (atleast thats my problem )
I would maybe just turn up the volume of the background percussion, but not much, just a tad

RandoRando: I kind of agree with what blinkesko. The intro is fucking epic, but the drop doesn't completely agree with it. I'd say your options are to either tone down the intro (which I'd say no to because it sounds awesome), or pump up the bass after the drop. But really nice work production wise, everything sounds great.

PRR: Love the drums in this, all the glitches you put in there really add a nice touch. If deeper minimalism is what you were going for, I think you nailed it. nice work buddy!

BevOh: I think I like where you're headed with this, but I'd say try to mix up your bass a bit if you're going for the midrange heavy feel. I was a never a fan of repetitive sounds held out for a bar's length, so I think resampling and mixing in some other basses might make it more interesting. I dig the vocal sample you used though, funny shit!



Here's my newest, still rough, needs some better transitions and the sub needs some work too. Hats also sound a bit loud now that I listened to it after uploading. I haven't dabbled much in the minimalist/mellow side of dubstep much, so I'd really appreciate some feedback!

yeah i sent u a pm, i cut up the wobble you sent along with it and chopped up mine as well and peiced them together and it actually sounded alright, but it was much u sent back only 8 bars (you know this) did your GF steal you or did u have to sleep? hhaha i wish everyone on dsf lived in the same city so we could just hand over flash drives

haha actually i just listened on my monitors and it still sounded damn good. but i am getting a sub very soon. i do have a logitech surround and sub to check things on as well just to see what it sounds like on consumer speakers.

My current wip is in my signature. It still needs to be mastered and I need to throw in some pads. I'm on the fence about keeping the chopped up 16th note bass lines that occur here and there.

@BudSpencertron thanks for the feedback, yeh I figured that one was for me, respect sir, because I'm really feeling your track, loving the delayed vocals, bass, vibe, break melody, the whole lot, 320 plz if I was to give it any criticism I'd say I'm not sure if I like how the vocal and the melody overlap in the main break... seem to be fighting for attention and detract from eachother

@willryan042 yes, minimal can be tough to keep interesting, I think slight changes in percussion every 4 bars can help. I dig the percussion in your track. the lead melody sound is a bit dull and ordinary from my perspective, the melody is not bad, very meditative. I want more sub! But that's just me with deeper tracks like this. Also maybe some sidechain compression on the pad sound would spice things up a bit.

Can you guys let me know how the bass sounds?
I have two different subs which are grouped to two different synths, which are slightly side-chained compressed from the sub frequencies of the kick...

Any other feedback would be great but it's in shit mode.
I just have been utilizing the info in the gain structuring thread so it would be nice to see if I am in the right direction!
