can each "pad" on the drum rack have its own effects on just that one sound? when in session view and you click the arrow to expand it to the right to show all the hits and volume faders, can you drag effects into those, i would try it but im not home right now.
Yeah, you can add effects to individual sounds exactly the way you described. You can also just drag effects onto the pads or chains themselves.

and also in drum racks and you click the button to bring up the properties of the sound where it brings up the wave form and you can adjust the attack/release etc of the sample, is there a way to reverse the sample??
By default, drum racks load with each sample in Simpler device which for some reason doesn't have a reverse function. If you have the suite you can convert the Simpler to a Sampler and reverse it there.

^ I can convert it to sampler by using hotswap? Also how are chains used in drum rack?

If you right click on the top bar of the Simpler device there is an option to convert Simpler to Sampler.
As far as chains go, it's kind of hard for me to explain, but basically each pad in the drum rack can have as many chains as you want. Each one of those chains can have samplers, synths, other drum racks or pretty much whatever you want.

rando you really need to break out the manual, you'll get all your answers and more in less time than it takes for someone to reply here.
maybe you've got bad experiences with badly written manuals? the ableton manual is really well written and entertaining for an instruction manual.

Nuther collab question. Say I have some recorded and processed sounds that my collab partner needs to have in order to hear it in the project file on his side. Do I send the project folder (including project file, recoded, processed)? Because now the only way he can hear any audio sample that isnt on his computer is if I export the track on a .wav, which obviously isn't efficient for collabing.

even i can answer this!
file<collect all and save.
and i think that will make everything into one file to send your buddy, but i have read that sometimes vst presets wont be sent along with that?
all audio you should be fine but can someone shed light on the preset issue?

I don't think presets get sent, but the plug in parameters should be saved.
If you collab and have the same version of Live, use Dropbox and save your project folder with collected samples there. Will save you loads of hassle, trust me.

I think it would be really cool if you could have two instances of Live opened up at the same time and them being linked together. Thus giving you the ability *to* have two users working on the same track at the same time.

So, I use a lot of my own samples (field recordings) etc.. in my music.
I used to do this on FL studio by loading my big recording into Edison, highlighting bits I wanted to keep and dragging them into my step sequencer...
I have yet to find as quick and easy a way to do this in Ableton... can anyone offer me advice on the best way to go about this? where I could have control over pitch etc of the individual samples.
Also, is there such thing as a master pitch in Ableton like there was in FL?

thanks!

try loading up your big sample in ableton just as a audio track, place your warp markers on each transient for each new sound you recorded, right click and slice to midi track, and set the slicing to the warpmarkers, then all those little chops will be in a drum rack, and you have lots of controls to choose form for each clip.
can a ableton expert confirm this
as for the master pitch, i havent seen anything like that yet

i think it involve just slapping an effect on the master though
