nah it's not great. Most of the MCs are out of time a lot and a lot of shit instrumentals. Fekky is terrible.

My 4000th post is me complaining, quite fitting i guess.

However, it doesn't feature Toddla T so is automatically better than the last special they had.

I liked it, JME went in surprisingly much. Also it's nice to see Dizzee again and the vibe was so happy

But a bunch of 10+ year veterans in the room together again isn't proof that grime is alive and kicking. Where's the big gang of new MCs people care about?

I quite liked that 1xtra freestyle thing, pretty good.

Let's be honest though, this is much more exciting.

Undeniably big energy and the general levy bit is gold but aside from that its pretty average, more shouting than actual bars, Footsie's tune is a bit wack, missing a fair few ppl too.

Ppl treating it like its the pinnacle of grime  'grime aint dead like they said dubstep aint dead' etc, seen much better similar vids already on 1xtra, boiler room, NTS this year

Also whats with all the trap beats, only about 3 actual tunes you could call actual grime beats
are you one of those people who thinks grime is just pitch bending detuned square waves and 8-bar loops?

No, just most of those beats mistajam plays are uniform trap beats that may as well be one long tune.

People have used beats like that for grime for ages, before the term "trap" was in circulation on this side of the atlantic, and before it carried the connotations it does today.

Sidenote, I think mixing in key is objectively better than not doing so.

There's a really huge trend now though for American style beats. Like really stereotypically trap style ones. The studio I work in has a dude next door making beats all day of that style and the main guy in the photography/film studio bit does music videos for so many people in the grime scene and they pretty much all have really american style beats.

I think it's mainly gone towards american style beats because grime producers are bad these days. ignoring the instrumental grime being pushed (there is a fair bit of good stuff like that) LOADDDSSS of grime with MCs on is just brostep. They call it grime but it's brostep. Then they realise they sound better over a few high hats and an 808 because there is room on the track for an MC, rather than them being washed out.
