This might be the dumbest thing of late in underground music.

New label from Vessel & Ossia, called "FuckPunk" ( ), who operate under the ethos "Get off your ass and stop making vanilla music". Not sure you can say shit like that when your first release is a Pulse edit, just cos it's on a transparent 5" dubplate.

Maybe I would've once thought this was cool, but it's just... dumb. I've only heard the tune on this instagram post, but it honestly sounds awful b2b just like any of the hundreds of other Pulse edits. But fair ones, if people like that, then that's cool. However, then to restrict it to something that will seriously degrade after a few plays is just beyond dumb. This isn't a vinyl vs digital thing, as that's been discussed many times, and I'm all in support of labels doing what they want. This just seems needlessly disrespectful tbh.

Perhaps I'm just jaded, but this is just a bit "my first cultural rebellion" for my liking. "Hur hur, let's put Bob Marley on Pulse X. Hur hur, it's the first release, but let's make the catalog number 003. Hurrrr, we're better than anybody else putting out music on dumb vinyl or digital which people will actually be able to listen to." I just wonder why they're even bothering to release it at all.

am I the only one who thinks this "label" wants to ridicule all these "cultural revolution" guys? it's ironic-ironic?

imho just an expensive pisstake. :)

Perhaps, in which case, it's even more cringey and disrespectful to fans of theirs imo.

Update: The tune runs for 50 seconds. :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :| :|

Because of exactly that. Tape-Echo crew is well respected, has a lot of fans, and they're either putting out a dumb product (no problems with that, I just think it's dumb), or willingly putting out ship to rip them off for jokes. If you go out to get an expensive laugh out of your fans knowing they'll buy it and further fund their job (which is a dream job for many of their fans), that's pretty disrespectful to them imo.

I see your point and I can agree with most of it, but I don't think it was about cashing in... the production costs must've easily hit ten quid per unit, no? even if they make three quid with each item sold, that's a grand total of 60 pounds, which might be just enough for a beer per person involved. (I'm aware most vinyl labels are happy to break even, but that's not the point now.)
and spending 30£ on a 12" testpress with hand-drawn artwork on it (looking good imho) wouldn't be the dumbest thing either of us have ever done when it comes to our music purchases, I'm sure.

It is indeed a bit lame, but the other releases could be really good.

The absurder the format the better tbh
...like you would have to 'crack it' to get to listen.

For example

getting a puppy to eat a usb drive and sell that

or draw a qr code on a manhole cover and sell that
