@Feedthedemons Loving that untitled dub track. Mix down sounds clean and I love that groovy synth lead. Really would like to hear a finished version of it!

@ParaTroXic Enjoyed listening to this and feel it has a lot of potential to be something good. It does sounds rough, idk if that is due to quick mastering to make it loud or the mix down. Keep working on the track would also like to hear a finished product.

@alexeyhermann Love the snare and strings. Mixing sounds good as well. TBH, I really do not like the synth fill at 46-47, little too odd for me, but could just not be my cup of tea.

@Alexandercunningham Impressive work for being new to ableton, I always loved this genre of chill laid back trap. Also, sounds a little too cluttered at the drop at 2:19, could be a mixing issue or maybe lowering the vocals, less delay layers or some filtering could change my opinion.

@mthrfnk Very well produced enjoyed both your tracks. But it seemed there was just something 'missing' to both the songs to make them really pop, but again, impressive work and hope to be at the level one day

@zosomagik Love mellow stuff like this, def need some more stereo imaging/width in there to really get me sucked into the track. Good work!

@Coolschmid Really diggin' that intro, feel like the build at :30 to :40 could use a little more atmosphere, but besides that, love the sampling and synth work. Mix sounds real clean as well.

This is my first time posting on this site. Been producing for fun on and off for about one year and want to take it to the next level.

Here's a track with some idea's that I'm working on, arrangement seems weird to me, tried to make a heavy drop at the end. Have no idea how to master really, so I tried my best lol. Any criticism or advice would be much appreciated.

E-scott - Nice melody, could do with better mixing thou and in particular needs some more low/mid. For a beginner you're doing very well thou.

coolschmid - Nice melody, good mix down sounds different to alot of the sutff I here on, NICE,

Feedthedemons - One of the best tracks I've heard coming on here, sick mixdown, try mono'ing your sub, cause it could lose its power on some speakers.

How is it that I give feedback to the three most recent posters above me and somehow only get one bit of feedback in return?

This phenomenon is baffling.

My bad, I'll give you some feedback. I am no expert but I'll give advice on what I think can be made to sounds better, but remember its only my opinion so.

Positives
- Nice Melody, good vibe
- Well mixdown
- Nice panning and use of FX
- Nice automation like the filters and stuff, really makes it sound more complicated
- Good arrangement and transitions.
Negatives
- Change intro, perhaps without drums to start off with, make your Drop more distinctive to your intro
- More sub bass (I like loud subs)
- Find a different Drum sample for the first drop, I feel like it can sound better.

@ Ocelots Revolver :
Melodywise it sounds good but contrary to the poster above I find your mixdown to be lacking a lot of low end. It feels like you've cutted to much low's and low mids on all your synth's and drums.

@sjscar
Very nice melody, fitting synths and nice use of fx to give this one a really nice vibe.A little work on your mixdown and drums would make it even better - but for a beginner you are on the right track for sure! keep it up

check your kick - after listening to your song again it sounds like there's a shaker on top of your kick and it's definetly not mono. at least I find that "clicky" thing a bit annoying ^^

@Paratoxic: your link isn't working

I haven't done too much lately mostly because I always somehow struggled to write good drops or at least I'm not a 100% happy with the outcome. This time I completly changed up my workflow and bounced single parts of the drop to audio and processed them further. This was so much more fun because of the amount of possibilites you gain as if you just stick to midi alone. At least I found this time a workflow that I really enjoy.

I appreciate the additional feedback. Hope you guys were commenting on the WIP I posted on the previous page, not the one in my sig.

Manu Diao Dig the melody and progression for the intro and verse. Buildup comes in at the perfect time with the perfect instruments but fails to develop, Feels like the energy just FELL directly before the drop, the vocal reverb tail in the dramatic pause doesn't help. My suggestion is a simple pitch bent riser and to warp the singer's final vowel to drag it out until the drop.

Drop sounds outstanding but becomes one-dimentional after a while, easily fixed though. High pitched liquid funk-y piano melody does not match this section at all. My solution is to beef up that melody with a different, big, sound and have it alternate with the bass for big one shot hits every so often. Choppy bass goes great with the unpredictable drums, vocal has the exact opposite effect and doesn't work at all. Would suggest chopping it up for wet one shots and use it in the same workflow you used for the bass. Dig the high midrangey element that comes in after the first 16 bars or so of the drop

Feel the transition from the drop to the breakdown is weak.

Snare's decay is too short for the halfstep portions IMO. Hats sound weak and don't quite fit the character of the track. Drum rhythms are def. a strength of this track I notice a lot of little edits and fills.

ParaTroXic your link doesn't work.

Dodecadylan, Intro vocal sample doesn't seem to match the rest of the track at all. Lets get a proper intro and build going. Like the dungeon-y bass a lot, its a keeper. Could be mixed better, sounds like it completely dominates the track. Fond of the bass melody. Dig the low bass swells in-between hits that get added. Proper transition into alternate bass melody would be appreciated. Drums are too low in the mix, rhythm gets boring quick, the filtered hat fills were appreciated though. Sitary sounding lead doesn't fit at all, IMO bury that bitch in reverb and delay and eq it into the higher register. Vocal sample comes back in, still doesn't seem to fit at all. Would appreciate other elements being added.

manudiao: Nice melody, really like the intro and pads and stuff but I feel as if the drums are a bit static/robotic, once you develop the drums, the track should really sound significantly better. Perhaps grab a break from somewhere.

Already got feedback for this, but wondering what you guys think:

@sjscar - thanks man! that lead is pretty simple it's really just the arrangement that gives it that feel.

@paratroxic - that's fucking awesome dude! I'm having a bit of writers block with that dub track but I'm gonna force myself to finish it because I'm really happy with where it's at so far and I want to see a completed version. Also the bass was set to mono but I forgot it was grouped with another track that ha some filter delay on it. It did sound kinda dope though haha.

escott - BEAUTIFUL intro dude. I'm loving that vibe. When the sub and kick come in, it's insanely beautiful. The vocals compliments that part really well. I'd say maybe turn down your snare a tad, everything is sound so great so far. I'd love to collaborate with you if you ever wanted to lol. The breakdown of the melody chords are killing me. Everything about this track rocks...I must know what you used to create those melodies. I usually just use massive, fm8 and kontakt. The drop is nice and smoothly. This is a very creative and simple track. If I were making this track, id make the subbass go along with the bass stabs instead to give it more whiplash and dynamics. It's such a great start, keep it up! Followed

ocelots revolver - awesome sample, it reminds me of something gramatik would use in a track. im personally not a fan of the kick, the snare is nice though. those melodies and arps are really nice and compliments your track very well. when things begin to filter it really hypes up. Im loving your dnb loop building up. nice use of silent. The drop could use more subbass imo, but everything thats flying about your bass is superb. Im not a big fan of the main bass itself but nontheless a nice swift vibe it gives to the drop. The second breakdown is a nice little break from all the heaviness, it gives a nice atmosphere and could imagine it being played in the club. Wow! that filtered bass before the second drop is amazing. the second drop is definitely better imo, i like how you advanced your arrangement. those vocals saying "iknowiknowiknow" or whatever is tight. This is a nice track man, keep it up

manudiao - amazing intro, i love those chords. the vocals are really beautiful. Im really digging the arrangement, it has a beautiful intro. when the vocals come in, I think the vocal could be lowered by a db imo, overall a beautiful track. omg im loving this. when things begin to pick up im starting to fall more in love with this track, keep it up bro. everything is mixed nicely, the drums are beautiful. those basses are so sick dude. this drop is killing me. the piano is giving such a beautiful vibe to it. those arps are beautiful too. this is a superb mix man, keep ti up :)

paratroxic - the intro is decent, it sounds kind of funky. not my cup of tea but still has a nice gritty feel to it. the bass could use work, the vocals are weird imo but still decent. more reverb on your effects would be nice. wicked drop. i really love those gritty basses. such a gutter track when the drop comes in. im personally not a fan of the bass arrangement of the intro and the vocals, i feel like this track has alot of potential given the drop but the rest is decent.

Here is my track, it's featuring danny claire as vocalist. i call it in the end. thanks in advance!

Remember kids, feedback is all subjective. Whereas one thinks your track is shit, another will think its awesome. As you can see in this forum, just about every form of feedback you get from different people is contradictrary to each other.

It sucks.

@Massaphekt - Great tune! Really nice vocals and production. This would suit better on the finished track section!

@ParaTroXic - Doomy stuff bro. Not really my cup of tea so I don't believe ill be the best to judge this... Great horror feel on how that bass moves with the vocals. There's some of the hats at 1.50 that I feel like it would be better with another sound.

@Ocelots Revolver - Cool vibe with the sample! But you should raise the vol on it during some parts so it won't be too lost in the mix. You could also use some more dynamically flowing subs, to give it more depth.

@Manu Diao - Great drop! Nice drum work and the chords are smooth. Mabye add a very little amount of side chain on the vocals, to add some groove to it..

Here's something me and a friend did... Other than everything else that might need work, our main issue is the slight dissonance between two of our synths and that our two samples might clash a bit too much.

Sup guys, feedback first, figured I'd give loads since some people seem to be missing out and you guys are always helpful with feedback to me:

@Alexandercunningham: I really like this from the start, I like the percussion and the vocals. Perhaps the kick could have a little more prescence against the sub? Personally I'd cut the "luxurious" sample, it sounds a little out of place. In terms of dissonance, tbh I think it adds to the character of the song. Aside from mixing the drums to be slightly punchier I can't really fault this man. Nice job!

@MassAphekt: Nice chilled intro, I like the vocals a lot. The chords that build up sound nice, but perhaps add some more lowend in the first minute - just to fatten it up a little. I really like the drop a lot, but again I think it could perhaps use a little more low/low midrange in places just to really give it impact. The drums sound good, in places the kick gets a little muffled but not too much. The tempo switch in the drums at the end is nice. This reminds me a lot of Seven Lions, I think in your little breakdown a trance-y longer breakdown would definitely compliment the track. :)

@ParaTroXic: Tbh I'm not a fan of that intro bass, it sounds a little muddy and dissonant. On the drop the kick gets overpowered by everything, definitely try toning back your FX and mixing the midrange sounds evenly. I get what you're going for with this, I think it just needs a little more care in terms of the synth work and the mix. I'd definitely work on livening up the drums using hats and rides too to keep the energy up.

@manudiao: Intro is so lush and chilled, I love it. Introduction of the sub and vocals is spot on. The build is nice and that little drum fill is cool, I think on the drop the midrange could perhaps come down a little in the mix as it is really loud, try sidechaining your synths to the vocals too - not as you would drums, a lot smoother and less drastic, imo this helps to glue the vocals against the loud synths and stops everything being too loud. I think the snare could be livened up too - maybe every 4th change the hit to one with some wide reverb. Really nice work man. :4:

@sjscar: Nice intro but the drums are so dry against the mix, personally I don't like the snare but thats just me. I think you could use a lot more call/response on the "drops". I like the vibe on the middle section with the delayed synths, the clap here sits beter than your snare. The final drop is nice, but lacks a little bit of energy, it's very regimented - some offbeat perc or synths might liven this up.

@Coolschmid: Damn the groove on the main of this is pretty fucking sweet. It's the vocals - nice work with those. I think you could fatten the bass more through either layering or saturation... or both. I like the 80's style synth that stabs along, but you could maybe widen this a little and give it some more edge before the melodic part drops in at 2:15ish. I love that part btw... would like to hear where it goes. In terms of the mix the drums sit well but perhaps some wide reverb on stuff would give more air to everything. :W:

@Ocelots Revolver: The intro on this sounds a little rough imo, sounds like you high passed everything a tad too much. On the main at 0:50ish I think your bass could be a lot heavier, try saturating and filling out the midrange to warm it up maybe? The break style drums are nice but I think the kick could carry more weight. The vocal chops on the break are spot on and I like the build. On the drops I'd lower the piano too - it seems too loud versus everything else. I'd maybe make it wider and wetter with verb too. Nice job :)

@PhaserBass: Not my kinda dubstep but I know what you're aiming for and it sounds like you nailed it. For me it's a little repetitive, some offbeat skanks might be cool. Otherwise the drums and bass sit well in the mix.

@Stargazer: Link doesn't work.

@npcompl33t: Link doesn't work.

I'm working on this remix so I'd appreciate any feedback on what I've got so far, I know the mix sucks atm haha:

@Spectrafunk - I don't know what you're saying when you say "the mix sucks" cause its really not that bad. That second song kills it! Production quality is top notch and that's some funky shit dude. Not really much feedback other than keep on doing your thing.

@Alexandercunningham - again slick production and i'm feeling a fly lo type vibe here. All I would do is mix that wavey sub thing you got going on in there better. If its a sub try and LP it at around 80hz and if it's not a bass just eq the bottom out and layer it in with a sub.

@Ocelots Revolver - the song is sick and the mix is almost there. the mid range bass you have going on sounds a little muddy. Other than that this is cool as fuck dude! It seems like you put a lot of work into it!

Alright I never ended up finishing the last one I posted on here but I started and pretty much finished this one right here. I'm really happy with the way it's turning out, which is very rare for me but oh well.

First Wobble Bass

Post by irrelevant-audio » Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:39 pm

Hello everyone on this forum. This is my fist post here but I have been lurking on the site for a few weeks. I just started getting into dub step but have been making electronic music for a while.

Last night I put together my first ever wobble bass and I'm looking for any criticism on the sound.

Here's the file.

@sjscar it sounds good and I like the composition but just like someone else said the drums don't sound mixer well. The kick and the snare sound like their taking up a lot of headroom and stand out way to much.

@annex great tune mate, smooth mixdown, i like it on the second drop when the samples are in sync with the snare.. One thing i reckon would fit nicely into it is a g-funk synth, would make sound pretty gangsta!
@spectrafunk You're mine is my fav out of the 3, great work on the breakdown and the final break just before the drop, the melodies got that feel good vibe to it which is important.. the kick drums got a really nice shape to it too!
@alexandercunningham Really like the vibe to this, great work getting all those vocals to sound nicely together, takes a bit of effort to do that! Love the hi hats that come in at 1.33 too.. One thing that i'd fix is the kick drum, it sounds good already but it just needs a little bit of punch to get it on top of the bass, using waves ssl channel eq is a good way of doing that by giving it a sharp boost at 100hz and 200hz and hi passing it at like 80/90hz.
@MassAphekt Great track, pro arrangement and sounds you've got going, like the switch to 4x4 at 3:13, good mixdown too.
@ParaTroXic I'm not into my metal vocals but the gritty bass sounds on the drop are meannn, I know this would go down well at somewhere like the download festival ha.

@lukeraith: That arp gets reaaally annoying after a while. I like the groove of the track, but there's not really a whole lot of melodic content for me to listen to, try bringing the lowpassed synth in the back a bit more up in the mix, and layering it with something else.
At 1:22 there's some movement in the bass that really puts me off, sounds like a resonant filter sweeping up or something.
The beat is definetely what I like the most about the tune. :)

@Annex: the stabs remind me of 16 bit - Skullcrack, which is good haha. The lead could be brought up a bit and maybe distorted a tad, to make it hit harder, if that's what you're going for. The beat itself is pretty nice, the sub is enourmous. It does feel a bit empty though, but I can't really figure out what would complement the elements already there.

mthrfnk: After the huge build, the drop doesn't have the impact you'd expect, wouldn't say it's a let down, but it does feel like it just doesn't hit you as hard as it could. And I'm sorry to say that I'm still not a fan of the lazerparty :( Everything else sounds solid though :D
'Youre mine' has one of the funkiest basslines I've heard in a while, loving it. The intro drags a bit long though. And you're a bit of a dick because I expected an awsm drop :(
'Disposable' is straight up beautiful, got nothing to criticise about it. The eery vocals is something I really wanna learn how to make, sounds so beautiful. Beautiful stereo image on them aswell, really drags you into them in a way. But god man, it craves a drop after that ending. Some slow, half time, sidechain drop or something. If you never finish any of these, please send them over :3

This is something I was just messing about with today, no idea if I'm gonna try to make a tune out of it, and I don't really know why I added the reese at the end, doesn't really fit. I'm pretty much just looking for ideas for where to take this and stuff :)

EDIT 2, update 3, ignore the reese at the end there, no idea why I haven't deleted it yet

@Alexandercunningham: Super catchy, the drums are really nice. Some of them could have more presence but Im not very good at doing that in my tracks so I can't really criticize. Very good track.

@MassAphekt: Wow man I wish I knew how to make vocals sound like that, so good. The song flows and transitions well, the drums are awesome. Very good atmosphere. Great job.

@ParaTroXic: Good sounds, I like what you're going for, loud and angry. That slayer beat reminded me of Funtcase. Not really my style but I appreciate the work you put into it.

@blinkesko That track is so good man, the intro was really enveloping and the drums sounded great. Very good sounds.

Heres mine, not finished
