Rapping is an over-rated skill. Most MCs are about as musical as seven year old girls chanting playground skipping rhymes.

hardly, write some bars, then remember them, then spit them with a tight flow over 140bpm. You will see what a challenge it is.

In fact I got to admire Jay-Z, especially in that Dirt Off Your Shoulder production vid w/timberland, man freestyles the whole tune, then remembers the whole freestyle to do the final version, sick.

I can see the skill in it but I find the end result monotonous (with a few exceptions). Give me a big pair of lungs and five octave range any day.

You can't be serious... Granted, most of the (non-export) lagers you get in British pubs have a number of similarities (i.e. lack of aromatic hops. watery, not much flavour). Yet, I guarantee if you were to do a side by side taste testing of the following lager (see below) with say Fosters, you would notice significant variations in both the flavour and body of these beers, not to mention that one was considerably better than the other!

Image
now that's proper lager right there, gave it to a stella drinking mate and he spat it out in disgust, the philistine :( .You tried this stuff yet?,another top drawer, well flavoured lager[tesco's are doing it for a quid a bottle right now, winner].Image
Not had that one, but being Brew Dog, tis bound to be a winner! Will definitely get down to Tesco sharpish! :D

I find Kode9 & The Spaceape boring. I enjoy the odd Kode9 production, but most are ruined by the spaceape.

So true. I sometimes put Memories of the Future on in the hope that Spaceape has evaporated off the tracks; shame, he never has.

im kinda with you on this one, i find it bland and unoriginal...

seen as i'm here i'll drop a moan too,

i hate uk funky as much as i hate uk garage, as well as their shiny happy mc's showing off with shit like, "ladies crew this ones you" and the rhyming ability of 3 year old mute donkey,
i also dont like modern hip hop or grime mc's as they have kinda lost the plot and just sound like everyone else before them, but worse...

oh,
and people that think their image makes the music.

Listen to Big L, Biggie, DITC, Immortal Technique and Taskforce to name a few.

Get back to me with a recording of similar par then I may consider you opinion.

This x1000!

He didn't say it wasn't a skill, he said it was an overrated skill. There is undeniably skill to rapping... I don't think Bill's saying he could do better, just that he'd rather they didn't bother at all or replaced it with a nice melody.

For what it's worth, I don't agree with him, but you've misinterpreted his point. It's not because he hasn't listened to Biggie Smalls...

I have listened to Biggie Smalls.

Fat bloke talking bollocks.

This is the unpopular opinions thread right?

I do like some rap, by the way. I love Wu and Tribe and P.E and Kool Keith and KRS1 and Rakim and Dalek. I just think the beats and lyrics have to be very, very good to make up for the fact that most of the vocal parts are about as musical as the speaking clock.
