Not sure if you're aware but the US has 6 LARGE airbases in South Korea. Conducting excercises with South Korea happens on a daily basis in that region.

EDIT: I highly doubt that the US wants this to escalate since there's a distinct possibility of nuclear war/pissing China off.

China and the U.S won't let this escalate. China are having far too much of a good time in growing their economy and expanding their monetary and cultural influences around the world to fuck it up with a poorly planned war or provocative escalation of a delicate situation. IMO.

Yeah, this is how I see it. There's too much to lose and not enough to gain if war breaks out.

If war broke out, the US would find its supply of new TVs jeapordised. Can't be allowed to happen.
