hey i never said i'm not guilty or hypocritical ffs i've prolly been guilty of all of the above with a post count racked up like i've got, i'm just listing general trends i'm seeing not singling anyone out (yet)
if i do think of interesting topics i tend to post them, it's just a matter of them getting lost amongst all the crap
seriously if i was to start one right now called "sound design to effectively immerse a user" how long till it would be buried by the same ol as most of the people who would discuss it are gone or rarely on here now, it's more general audio (not filthy robot farts and wobbles), and not really edm related

+1 for the sound design/reverse engineering threads! sounds like an awesome idea. as i've always said i'd like to know how to make some of the professional filth that the likes of datsik and skrillex make. And not so i can copy but so i can learn. Having a thread like this would be pretty awesome, and it'd be a good idea once the sound is achieved to share settings used, plugins, patches etc as we could all benefit and would all learn in the process.

As a newbie to the scene myself, I use these boards to get some insight on producing EDM and obviously Dubstep. I think the guys here who just make a topic about how to get a Skrillex bass or Excision bass aren't doing themselves any good if they're not going to use that knowledge properly.

Instead of making a carbon copy of Skrillex's growl from Scatta. Look at the steps he took to get there and take that information to further your own creativity and come up with your own dastardly sounds!

Sure when I was brand new with no samples, and a bootlegged copy of Massive I was doing some of the same things. But realize you wont be getting far if you're just imitating. I'm still a newbie but I'm trying steer clear of the drones and put my own signature into my music.

Just my two cents :6:
Music isn't a competition.

It unlocks as soon as you learn how to exactly replicate the scatta bass only to realize that it was a pointless endeavor.

I`d give it 3 posts and the thread will deteriorate into how do I make this Skrillex dog bowl movement sound?
Or even better, the dude that asked how you make that vocal sound that prepares you for the end of the world.
Hmmm let me see.
it`s call a vocal and it was recorded as a vocal.
Not a damn synth.
You know like how I talk to people? with words, in english?

Fart into a mic.
If you want echo, fart into a cup mic'ed up.

Because everyone is too impatient to create their own sound.

oops, didn't notice it was old. I've been lurking on here for quite a while, seemed to have gotten a little better about that.

Whats really funny is the questions are aimed at the wrong people.

"Hey how do I get that skrillex growl exactly"

"Well... I mean its a massive wavetable enveloped and with some eqing, distortion, and compression... I dunno go ask Skrillex."

because everyone and their downs-syndrome uncle can get a pirated copy of any DAW/synth they want in an ettempt to make music. So the production culture is becoming saturated with 'scene kids' that although they would never admit it are attracted to the idea of making Dubstep because of the ego-merit it would bring, yet lack any form of an educated background in music, nor the correct perspective or incentive to actually enter into the world of digital music creation.

They don't want to make music, they want to miraculously make the next big dubstep dance floor smasher, there's an important difference right there.

Don't get me wrong i think the 'underground' access to powerful music creation tools is actually a very very good thing as amazing tallent would more often than not been restricted from realising itself. I don't think every 17 year old Digitaly musical savant has thousands of Dollars to throw at what could easily be a pipe dream. I'm completely and utterly all for people who can't afford and wouldn't have bought otherwise to explore a creative avenue as long as they make no personal monetary gain, and if they get big, support what got them there by going legit before signing any contracts.

But on the other hand it causes a saturation of sheep that actually have no critical interest in the creation of music as an expression of self. They just get wrapped up in the 'idea' of making the kind of music that's the 'in thing'.

There's your answer, imo.
