However, I've noticed in many of Skream's newer tracks, most prominently in his remix of In for a Kill (not a new one lol) you hear a grimy, earth-shaking sub-wobble.
Not only is it grimy and a sub but it's wobbling as well, I've constantly tried but they either end up too fat or too dirty - his basslines have been done perfectly as the vocals just fit perfectly over the top! I've tried googling it as "sub-bass" or "Skream sub-wobble" but no luck...
Can anyone help?
my guess is that its not the actual subbass he's wobbling. sounds to me like he has something with more harmonics, maybe a square on top of his sub and wobbling it slightly and really low in the spectrum. and then wobbling the volume of the final sound- sub, square, and all- at the same speed as the other wobble.

thanks in advance.
Easy put a power cable into your gameboy, or just touch the end of a cable.
i wanted to know how to recreate it rather then sampling it.

While looking for that tutorial I came across a Reese bass tutorial, and it sounded really similar. Especially the rises and jittering sound. Can anyone confirm these basslines are just Reese basses? Either way, I'm learning those.

that is recreating it. just not with a synthesizer

i c it as an old school reese. but with more sub and less harmonics... and the recipe to that is actually close the one u just gave Jr.
try taking two waveforms with little harmonics if a square is too hard.. maybe a saw OR take squares and stick a lopassfilter on em...
but the main deal is to actually detune them from one another.. even so slightly... so it ''rasps'' up the sound and has beating... thats what makes me feel a wobble... reeses have ''beats''.
i really hear it as something similar to the bass at the very beginning of burial's gaslight.
i may be mistaken tho...

I am also interested in how ZD make their sounds. They are so unique. I have no idea whatsoever how they make that revving, driving sound. I'd look at some House bassline tutorials on YouTube and apply that to dubstep theory and tempo.
Also, how the fuck do they get their vocals that way? I wish someone did an interview of their tech.

Any ideas how to make a Bare Noize sound would be great. Especially that breakbeat constant rising sound (:

Noticeably when the drop comes in at 0:54, those are the sexiest wobbles and bass pads I've ever heard. If someone helps me recreate these sounds I will upload all of the massive presets here. I wouldn't even know where to start with describing these sounds, but from Drum and Bass masters, this track oozes DnB & Dubstep perfection.

If you have an amp, put a jack to jack cable in as if you were connecting it to a guitar and then touch the jack with your skin, works a treat just record then with any mic.

Hey all -
First post, just joined the forum, glad to be a part of this. Anyways, I have been hearing for lack of a better description, a stuttering effect applied to bass. Artists like Mim0sa and Gladkill tend to use it frequently in their tracks. Seems similar to step sequencing, but I am missing something. Here are a couple of examples:
The part I'm talking about is at about 2:04.
And again here at 1:25
I have been trying to get similar results using Massive's performer, but it's not quite right. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Not *exactly* this sound, as it's unique in itself, but I was wondering about the mechanics of the lead that comes in around 40 seconds
I like it's nostalgic and almost spacey quality. What sort of waveform or processing would I be looking at, roughly?

^ahah vangelis could tell u...
i think the nostalgic part comes from detuned oscillators... gives them a more ... lazy aspect...

Well in both of these tracks they are just gated basses. Just like you thought he is using some sort of step sequencer to modulate the amp or volume. The thing you think you might be "missing" at least in the second song is that while the gating is happening, there is also a Low Pass Filter applied and it's opening up as the note is held. also it sounds like the resonance is going up as the note is held as well. They could have either used an envelope to modulate the frequency or a really slow LFO set to ramp. I have created a patch for you to show you what I mean. No the bass sound does not match the sound of the 2 songs, but just listen to the gating effect.
For this I used camel audio's Camel Space. It has a much better step sequencer than massive does where you can control the attack, sustain, and decay of each step as well as the shuffle. It also has some other really cool effects so I'm not sure what DAW you use, but I would highly recommend Camel space. Hope this helps.

I have created a patch for you. Now I know the sound is off a bit but I think I captured the overall ambience you're looking for.
In addition to the detuned oscillators, There are a few other things going on. There is most defenitly a good deal of wet reverb on the sound. Also, it sounds like there is an envelope controlling the cutoff frequencey, so at the attack of the note, a Low pass filter is opened up, but as the note continues to hold, the filter closes more and more. On this filter there also seems to be a good deal of resonance. The amp envolope also sounds like it has only a longer decay but a medium sustain so as each note is held, the volume starts to decrease. Sorry if sounds nothing like what you want.

It sounds to me like it's defenitly a reese with a low pass filter thown on top. I put a patch together That I think sounds a lot like it. Now the movement isn't going to be at the same speed or sound the same because I don't know the exact amount that he detuned his oscillators, and Skream's production skills are light years beyond mine.
Excuse the annoying high sound, that some how snuck in when I uploaded it to sound cloud... Soundcloud
