I love this thread, but I hate it at the same time.
i loved the d&f tutorials when i started out, but i'm asking for his take on the technique and if he finds it useful, not "WhY iS mY bAss not good i coPied everyfing tHeY did"

or maybe i missed your point :o

You said that a good idea for budding producers was to read production mags and so forth.

Do you recommend any magazines, books (online or off) that would be good to suscribe to? Iunno, i would just like to get a mag each week that I'd def learn one new trick every week, even if its something basic like mixing a hithat.

What would you suggest?

What do you think is the ideal ratio for sub, midrange, and trebles in tracks?

How do you make your synths sound warmer?

Thank you for your time.

Been following you for years now, Love your production work and live sets. im going to have to say that crippled camel is amazing!! a few questions for you.

what is your fav dubstep track out right now?

how much time do you write on the road? how much time do you dedicate to music every day? do you wake up and just start at it...in a hotel room? or do you try to make most of your music in your studio?

I feel that I have alot of good ideas but finding the time and the mentality to work on things is sometimes hard. ( 40hr week job + DJ on side ) I was wondering how you find the inspiration to press on and get past these kinds of "mental fatigues" if any.

thank you

I really hope to get back on here and address a few more questions but I have a busy day tomorrow and I have to leave to play a show the next day. Maybe when I get back early next week I can get a few more in.

I'm not sure how long these Q and A's typically run for but I'm down to look this over again early next week and hit up a few more q's.

Take it ez guys. I hope you learned something

in a previous post he said future music, sound on sound and computer music were the three that he stated. Re read his post 'cause I believe it was in that same post that he recommended reading production magazines

I think I might be a little late for this thread but whatever. Im from vancouver BC and just want to know, how would you go about creating ambient soundscapes?? Would Foley/Field recording be the best way to achieve this?? Also what would you recommend for getting random sci fi percussion type sounds??

btw bro i didn't say it in the email sent to you, but the q&a runs as long as you want it to, if you feel exhausted by the questions or see a cycle of repeated shit from people not reading your old answers feel free to end it, we're just thankful for you time you've taken out to do this

Im just being completely general here with this question.

What makes a track sound pro? What can you do so when someone hears your track they don't
immediately think "Bedroom producer."

Ah shit ah shit ah shit ahhhhh shit awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww shieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet :'( I missed this interview?!?!

I haven't been on here for awhile :((( Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Seeing you @RedRocks was tight as fuck. You threw down so hard with Datsik that everyone was dead by the time Flux P got on lol....

I got a million and 1 questions...but only have a few for now.

1.What type of process do you do with a Sub-bass? I usually just keep it plain & simple with an EQ & Compression....everything else I have long chains.

2.Do all producers you know sample basses etc.? I only use drum samples...I don't know how to sample basses lol...I think I should learn

3.Are you ever going to collab with any out-of-the-box producers from your style? Ex.(Dillon Francis, Torro Torro, Nero) I just want to see some crazy collabs lol...the craziest one so far is Dillon Francis & Doctor P but it isn't THAT crazy..hope you understand my shitty written question.

Better way to say it I guess...Are you ever going to collab with any Circus Records members/Owsla members. Like a Downlink & Zedd track haha, I don't know what the fk would come out of that.

4.How long does it take you to make that "golden 16-bar loop"/How long does it take for you to finish a track you'd say?(Hours) Counting the tom-foolery/sitting there like..."fuck" (It feels like you have to spend over 10hours+ to get it Fin...for just a 16-bar, but most of dsf users seem like they make their tracks in a day like spic-and-span but the quality is still shit) <--no offense just being honest here.

5.Do you Ozone(Excited/Dynamics/EQ) your individual tracks + Ozone the Master? Or just Ozone the master?

6.1'm eh sevun-yurr old pro-doosher frum c0l0r4d0. cahn yu habb ayy li$t3n and l3t m3 kn0w whutchu tings?

Disclaimer:I've never promoted myself ever besides my first noob times in Dub Tunes & Feedback. I'm keeping all my shit under the radar till I know I'm good. But it would be an honor for such a big/famous most importantly..skilled...artist to shoot an opinion at my track/a good "quote" on what is needed to help me in the future of production(what I'm missing out on in the song). Feels like I have a slight potential, but then I hear everyone elses tracks and it shits on mine.

WIPs
Soundcloud
Soundcloud

Would be dope if you did! (If you say it sucks, I'll still be happy :Q: ) Wub don't delete this plox! This shit be important right now :o)

I think I have an ear for things/good at making melodies...I've only been producing for a little over a year now. Didn't have a job for that whole year so I just sat in my basement learning constantly! Slowed down a bit though...I was wondering if there are any other success stories you know(like Dillon Francis) that got taught the ins-n-outs of a DAW/Production from a Pro and became big! I wish someone would teach me!(guess it's all secrets/got to find out on your own). You're probably the only producer I've seen on Google that has spilt a shit ton of production beans. Chocolate chip cookies to you my friend. Most dope.

8. Anymore Moombahcore/Jump-Up(faster-tempo sounding) shit? the 2nd part of Existence VIP was unexpected/sick as fuck.

9.What type of ish do you listen to?(Ballyhoo!, Savestheday, Parkway Drive, The Expendables, Bring Me The Horizon, Deltron 3030, Minus The Bear, Defiler, Staind, Orgy?

10. Which producers are your main home burritos? Just Datsik & Excision(If they aren't my bad)?

Also, it's really cool how this all came together in the end, big ups
I definitely went through a phase where I wasn't happy enough with my stuff to try to get it released. Years actually hahahahaa. Anyways it got to the point where I was mostly just working on techniques and developing my sound and approach instead of actually finishing songs. Once I felt that I had developed my skills and sounds enough, I began finishing songs off and then started putting my stuff out there.

Thanks man, its surreal to me sometimes when I'm standing on stage in front of thousands of people. I pinch myself often :)

This is exactly what I have been doing. Just working on techniques and watching a shit ton of tutorials. Lurking in the forums. I used to rush tracks and post everything for people to listen to right away. I haven't finished a song in a while but my techniques and overall sound has come a long way. What good is a track if the sounds are all shyte?

How do you go about your drums? Whats your favorite sample pack/sample company? How do you mixdown your drums? Drums buses or individual drums? Last one about drums: Midi or Audio?
Big ups man.
