How do you do that? Isnt there always a little bit of the first half of the envelope still in front of it?

if you have the attack/level/decay/level all the way down it doesn't include it the first part, but you could also play with the level to the right of the decay & the level near the release to invert the envelopes if that makes sense

edit: yea theres a little bit of space but doesn't really seem to make a difference in the sound

Thanks for the screenie, awesome :W:
I figured it would be a problem since it seems you have to kinda play massive envelopes by feeling i think (the numbers its showing appear to be relative to the lenght of the note being played so it can be pretty vague). Sorry if im rambling, guess i should just try it out with some sounds instead of thinking about it

pitch-bending accurately to the keys you play in can make a nice effect with going along with the song as well
see how many semitones up or down from your root key is playable to your scale, there's 12 intervals(semitones) in an octave, im sure most of you understand that but for any inexperienced people, just see how many it takes to get to your next playable key and pitchbend your growl up/down that many semitones to get there and it will definitely sound a bit more interesting and most likely follow nicely with your tune, I personally pitchbend 90% of my growl basses but it's not required, tho if you really want it to talk, try spending more time playing around with the automation for it lol

cant belive ive only just noticed the re-sample option in reason.. been using it only for beats for about a year!! (tbf ive been too busy too look into it this past year also)

Been playing around with this, its a little too harsh and distorted but close to useful i suppose. Also the original loop has like 9 automation clips for 4 bars, that can be done more efficiently for sure lol.
If anyone wants to know how its made for some reason, ill have to be vague. Its coming from a 'fuck-around' type project with a shit ton of fx on several channels, one or two synths and an edison on main to record it all.

quick question, would anyone know how to recreate something similiar to this in massive or fm8?
the first bass is so raw with insane harmonics, i dont know if that was made through either but Im hoping my own experimentation will lead to something similiar, it has a nice rising/gliding vowel effect

Gonna be a complete stab in the dark, but anyway. Youve got your basic FM8 bass setup: OP1 as sine, OP2 modulating it as triangle, both of them slightly detuned (very slightly). The instrument itself is pitched down at least 2.5 octaves. I reckon theres a third and fourth modulator in there both feeding into OP2, but quite subtly. One of them is pitched up quite high, say ratio 4 or even 8, and they are also both fed into the main out slightly. That + some pitchbending on OP1 should get a similar-ish result i reckon. Oh and also maybe a bit of envelope on the modulators to give long notes extra character.

Actually I was doing a lot of stuff in fm8 too but I realized you can pretty much make any combination of operators sound like a grow. At least in my opinion. Check out that sound. I took* a completely different approach. Instead of using filters out side of fm8 I used the talkbox in combination with some vocoder modulation (the pitch setting). The other ingredients to get it sound robotic and to talk (yahweh is god.. i think it says that at least) is too pitch down like you said (because you get the low sound with the high harmonic content) and also to downsample a decent amount. Then you need multiband compression, EQing and I used an insane amount of multiband compression throughout the fx chain.

What do you think?

I actually quite like that. I especially like that clicking sound at the start of each note.

thanks. I appreciate that. somehow the downsampling made much crisp. I'm convinced that downsampling+pitch shifting+multiband distortion = robotic growl sound every one wants to make.

sounds like it says yaa wei eii oo

I think your on the right track with the vowels, but seems like your really missing the low end, and low-midrange power if you know what I mean? Most growls sound & feel powerful but seems like yours is mostly mid-high end, Also the sub seems like it's not following the bass at all

Something I made with 3xOsc a lil while back. Loads of effects on it.
basically, i just made a harmonically rich sound, ran it through the wow filter early in the chain to bring some vocal-ishness to it, then distort like crazy and after everything I automated an EQ. D:
Sounds great for neurofunk. :4:

It sounds well shit on its own but you have proved that in the correct context, it shines.

Nice secret tune.
