My newest thing intro wise: Create a WHOLE other track for the frist 32-64 bars. Rob swire likes to do this type of stuff:
other producers do it too, his stuff just came into my mind first lol.
i usually just pick a genre (electro, trance, hiphop) with my first track coming in fullon then fade its bits out into a mini breakdown, add fx/riser a good kick speeding up into 32's and slam that drop in the face at half time lol extra UMPH and catchs listeners off guard, they think they know whats coming but NOOOOOOOOPE!!!!!.

If you're gonna do that though, do it well. I HATE it when there's a great hook or whatever in the intro and then it never appears again. I'm not saying use the hook for the intro and the drop but at least use it again in a break or hint it somewhere or something so you kinda tie the whole song together. Otherwise it's just stupid.

stupid is as stupid does... i do like to reference my intro during the break downs though... but as with all things in music there is no true set of rules that need to be adhered too, insert creativity/spontaneity at will. Sometimes leaving your listeners wanting more is the desired affect, ppl want what they cannot have :p. Then in the future, you can take the into reverse your sequences and write a whole new track as a complement to your first track... possibilities are endlsss!
