i've only just discovered this thread.

Greek, have been living in Manchester since 91 with a 9-year break in Germany (does that make me a traveller haha)

fell in love with dubstep in May 2007 at a dubstep night at Saki (no idea what it was, pure dubstep all night, it was free too before 11) LOVE AT FIRST SOUND as i like to say.

the rest is history. started playing dubstep a year later (had been doing DnB before). have played at various locations in Manchester as well as in Huddersfield and Liverpool.


I am a member of the Dubearth.com crew, which is an international collective of producers and DJs from Canada, Holland, Portugal, Brazil, the UK and Italy. We all do regular podcasts showcasing unreleased or undiscovered material. I do the Genre Salad every month where I introduce and play my favourite tracks of the day, year or life, usually brand-new dubplates and unreleased material straight from the budding producers coming from all corners of the Earth but also older tracks from bigger names that don't get played out enough. The tracks span many different music genres from dubstep to hiphop to jungle to raggacore to Schranz but there is a heavy dubstep bias i have to admit!

I am also a member of a few other Manchester-based crews, EQ, Plutonic and Rare as a Green Dog.

Scope for a new night coming inn October @ The Ruby Lounge.
It's called This City Is Ours, and not a Dubstep night as such, but a lot of Experimental Hip Hop and Future Dub. The aim is to have live sets and D.J sets run seamlessly (as the venue has a seperate stage and D.J booth with 2 seperate rigs)

Both rigs will be EQ'd for low end to make your chest cavity collapse

First night October 23rd we got Ikonika, Bullion and From The Kites Of San Quentin (LIVE). November being booked as we speak, but looking so sexy i basted my chair just typing this!!

From the same town as Synkro, just outside of Stockport, but still feel part of the Manchester scene. Definitely reckon that Manchester's bout the 3rd best UK city for Dub, behind London then Bristol, but thanks to nights like Hit and Run, Format, Dubspot and Bass Camp i don't reckon were far behind Bristol at all, especially with the talent about town, and coming up. Bare underrated producers, Pangaea, Indigo ect, but i reckon this years holding big things to come!

Bass Camp and Whatever The Weather are sad to report that we have been forced to cancel the May 8th show featuring The Heartless Crew and Ruckspin due to licensing issues.

Recent legislation requires city centre nightclubs to submit a 20 page risk assessment document to the local police 28 days prior to every single event they plan to host. The reality is that the vast majority of venues do not do this because it’s so incredibly time consuming; a venue such as Moho puts on around 5 events per week, necessitating an extra 100 pages of work to get through. Moho Live were previously unaware of this legal obligation.

If the venue does not fill in one of these forms and get permission to proceed, the police have the power to shut you down if they have any concerns about the event. Greater Manchester Police decided that the presence of The Heartless Crew presented a risk to the public.

For us, this seems pretty ludicrous because we’ve never had problems at any of our events, nor Moho at their venue. Security of attendees is our main priority (alongside tight sound and heavy line-ups). The Heartless Crew perform around the UK and Europe week-in-week-out without any trouble.

These new laws and procedures, put in place to govern events, just mean that the police can basically control what goes on in the City Centre. If you have huge budgets to pay for private policing, you can do what you want, otherwise, you run the risk of getting shut down, even when you have a perfect safety track record.

The new laws and procedures give the police far more power than they should have and are designed to reduce policing costs and generate more income from additional private policing. The further down this road we go the harder it becomes to organise an event, which ultimately leads to less diversity, less competition, increased monopoly power and diminished freedoms.

This is the second time we’ve had an event pulled by the police in under 6 months and it’s pretty darn frustrating as May 8th was set to be a great show having sold more advanced tickets than at any of our other shows in 2009.

To those involved in the organisation, those that planned to come and to all artists involved we offer our sincere apologies.

Refunds can be obtained direct from ticket outlets who have now been informed of the cancellation.

Never really found them to be stnuc tbh, they dont bother you if u dont bother them kinda thing.

It's called Openfest or summat. It's where all the music students play for one last assessment type thing!

My class are doing some performance using Ableton in a room somewhere on Openshaw campus. Theres live bands as well!!
