some stuff i've watched recently:

stardust - brilliant. like the princess bride for a new generation
the king of kong - amazing documentary about classic arcade gamers
funky forest - wacky japanese shit that was overlong, but had some amazing moments.

Battle Royale. It was on Filmfour, one of the few good films they show anymore, so I watched it for the fourth time or something. Takeshi 'Beat' Kitano is scene-stealing - completely immoral whilst also pitiful and pathetic, evoking a lot of sympathy somehow. Strangely it seemed more over the top in terms of gore and sadism than when I watched it at 15 or so -

Was pretty impressed by Stadust to be honest, probably by vertue of expecting little from it. Thought I Am Legend was really good but, was let down by the crap cgi. I finely saw Pans laberinth last week and thought it was amazing. You should really catch Half Nelson if you get the chance,. Infact go and reant it today. A very fine film. Seen loads of stuff recently but, my memory is pretty bad right now so cant for the life of me remember what it was i've seen over that last few months.

Don't bother with Battle Royale 2 though, it is probably the worst sequel i've ever seen.

@ Parson, I enjoyed Stardust too..Have you seen Mirrormask?

yes i love mirrormask.

i'm also one of the few who doesn't hate battle royale 2. its not much different from the first one really. its also the director's final film as he died right after it was made.

The guy who played Rob Gretton is a great actor. Cant waite to see this.

battle royale 2 is just like part one but rather than it being a free-for-all, there are two opposing armies of teenagers. its really not that bad.

i mean its really cheesy, but the first one is extremely cheesy as well. they're both like live action manga.

and rather than takeshi kitano as the badass instructor, you get riki takeuchi of the dead or alive series fame.

Having read the book i was disappointed in it..but that happens with most film adaptations.

I want to check Half Nelson, someone else whose taste i trust recommended it also.

he only started it, it was his son who completed it. I just found it was way too over the top, particularly the acting. There was none of the subtlety of the first film, particularly without Kitano.

I like him in Miike films..but thought he was awful in BR2.

i dunno i think he's always kinda awful, which is what makes him so cool

the closest version to the book apparently is The Last Man On Earth with Vincent Price, but i haven't seen it or the Omega Man.

yeah i see i am legend as a zombie movie rather than an adaptation of a vampire book
