Reaper can be run as either a rewire host or slave.
Google for tutorials.
I'm unsure I'd want to limit myself to the freeware plugins in the bundle. They are good, but there is some excellent payware out there too!
Good luck with making the switch. You may find some common questions are answered in the
Reaper thread.

Hey there, I'm new in the music producing world so I really appreciate the link you made there. Unfortunately I started downloading it yesterday but it stopped at about 70% and today I tried it again but now it fairly just doesn't start at all xD
Maybe I'm making an obvious mistake but frankly I'm a real noob in all this, but still I really would like to create my own music and learn from others.
Haven't seen anyone ask the same question here so mind me for doing :p

The dl link works for me, anyway, here's a new link.

To be honest, many of those plugins have been updated, so it may be worth tracking down the latest versions of each program.. This is certainly true of Reaper, Audacity, the Tal plugins, the Melda plugins, the Cockos plugins and Blue Cat Audio's frequency analyser.
Just google the name of each VST followed by the letters 'VST' and it should give you each developers site where you'll find the latest version available for download.
Good luck in starting out!
Patrick

Thank you soo much for the fast and accurate response!
This will probably sound stupid but what do I need all those VST's for? What do they provide me to produce music?

Good question.
The answer is that you don't need any of those VST's to make good music.
However, with the range of effects the VST's in this pack cover, producers can achieve an even wider amount of sounds than instruments, percussion and the voice alone can provide.
One example is to use reverb to 'place' the sound for the listener. A large strong reverb will sound like a cavern or cathedral hall, whereas a short minute of reverb on drums will make them more lively.
The delay unit is another example of a useful plugin. Adding echos that trail off in volume would require lots of copying and pasting and volume automation without using a delay plugin.
You don't need to get the latest version of each VST, the ones included in the pack will do the job nicely. But if you're a pedant, then obviously grab the latest ones..!

Yup, I remember those days reading tech books and thinking wtf!
Have patience, and Google every word you don't currently know. The path to enlightenment takes time!

The unison device is a chorus.
MY two personal favourites are Melda Chorus and Kjaurhus Audio Chorus.
It's not freeware, but Melda Multiband Chorus is by far the best chorus I've ever used! Check it out.

I'd like to throw in my two cents in on the VST question.
When I first came into the whole production thing from a musical background I was overwhelmed by the plugins.
Seriously though - just focus on Tal-Elektro to learn the basics of subtractive synthesis.
All I use regularly is crystal (not in the pack, but totally awesome once you 'get' synthesis), the kjheraus (sp?) plugs and reapers native plugs. there's some others for processing my raw drum tracks and stuff but overall you can narrow down all those plugs into a handful of necessary ones.
Also, grab the goldbaby tape 808 sample pack and some classic breaks and your all set for a while.
welcome!

Thanks

I will keep that in mind when I'm a little further on this path of "Producing".

The delay on the keyboard is likely to do with latency, which can be resolved by fiddling with the latency setting in the soundcard options within all audio apps.
This pack has absolutely every type of mainstream effect covered including two very capable synths. If you need more, check out KVRaudio.com or gersic.com/plugins

sackley wrote:Hey man, you should include Sonalksis FreeG master fader in the free studio pack. It's only recently become apparent to me that your signal won't clip on it's individual track meter but still be clipping in the signal chain - which is what this plug acts as a remedy to.
And, I'm not sure about the distribution rights, but Ambiance would be a solid, dedicated reverb to toss in as well...
You're right on both counts...
V3 is out of date now. Maybe we should compile a new version with user voted plugins?

Well, since we're going public, hah...
I would vote to pair it down a little. I think the amount of plugs in over whelming for newbies. Yes, there's a need for all the specific ones, but I think a simpler spread would help a lot of people get their head around the basics.
1 Synth (Prob Tal Noisemaker or Elektro)
1 Sampler (Obvs Shortcircuit)
1 Reverb (Ambiance)
1 Delay (Kjheraus [can't ever spell it right...])
1 Chorus (Again, probably Kjheraus)
1 EQ (ReaEQ)
1 Compressor (take your pick, but most likely something not too coloring and simple to grasp like GComp)
1 Distortion (CamelCrusher to start)
etc. on anything that I missed... Maybe just have a "Minimal Pack" and another "Free Advanced Production Suite" pack (I know the term advanced is subjective...)
I think most people, once learning the basics of each plug, would understand that they can get 100s of others that do the same thing a little differently...and would then build their own library.
But I think it is time for an update....

Plus, I would say you could offer LMMS (or something) instead of reaper since reaper is actually a paid software

One could, but Reaper goes on the basis that if you stick with it that you'll buy a license. I think it's pretty obvious when every time you open it there's the pop-up about it. Plus..... Reaper>>>>LMMS (no offense)
And if I were to recommend a free software suite it would be Buzz, but that's not quite beginner oriented....
If there's any demand I'd throw together a "Minimal Pack"....

no offense taken. I don't use lmms I use fl, IMHO lmms sucks...but it's made to be free and while reaper may not expire, I wouldn't feel right taking advantage of their software bug
