To be honest I think its fair enough if someones living here and they get a job over a native brit, but if they've no intention to live here other than because their employer has paid for them to be moved and work here, and then go back home when they're finished, thats a bit off and its shafting the local workforce who may not be trained in anything else, and have little chance of finding a job elsewhere in their town/area.

Theres a problem with people, in that they think if someone has one right wing principle, they must be a fully fledged far right, boarding on fascist. Works the same with the left, people see one slightly socialist viewpoint and they must be a stalinist commie.
What you don't get is that your average Asian(be they from Pakistan, China, Japan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Cambodia..) will work circles around you in both the Classroom and the workroom. It comes down to this... while you're here bitching and pissing and moaning about the jobless situation in the middle of the day on a Thursday(a work day in pretty much every country) someone else is out there making that check.
Don't project your self loathing on the hard working people of India who came to your country because of your bullshit colonialist policies over the centuries.
The bolded bit is just plain insulting to english people, many of which are extremely hard workers. And overly flattering to asians, many of which I know to be, by their own admission, layabouts.

And I cant remember mentioning India. I'm not talking about people who come here to LIVE here, and add to the taxbase etc. I'm talking about people who are specifically hired to come here, do the job, then go back to their native land where the cost of living may well be much lower, and as such are able to work for pay that the local workforce can not, being chosen over people who are out of work and out of pocket and just across the road.

When I'm hurt
but don't feel the pain,
I run or fight.
Sometimes run, hide, survive and evolve
sometimes fight with my life on the line
because I have come to I believe it is.

When my identity is revealed
and the task is worthy.

When I'm not doing anything else.

Outside the gate.

Is this not racial stereotyping also?

Whether it's a positive or negative trait, assumptions shouldn't be drawn based on where someone is from.

its a shame the direction this post has taken towards ehtnic race rants. And to Whitsler good post!!

Communications Act (by this I dont mean the broadcasting act but the bill Jacqui Smith is trying to pass to give the gov. access to all phone/email etc. communications) - if it comes into fruition would get me on the street in a peaceful protest.

Anything that directly infringes upon my civil liberties in a profound enough manner to directly affect me would get me protesting in a peaceful democratic way. - this is very open ended but in all honesty I believe most people are the same, unless they directly see a government action effecting them then they wont act, sad but true.

The problem is more the fact that due to the UK's lack of a constitution and its basis on legislature, acts like the terrorism bill for example might not directly affect you now, but what if say an authoritarian government where to come into power? The fact that we dont have a constitution would mean the ramifications would be profound.

I dont have any faith in online Number 10 petitions, I dont think they count for anything and the government use them more as a means to gauge public opinion rather than act upon it.

my 2 cents.

Asian isn't a race, it's a continent. Like if I said "British people are hardworking" that wouldn't be some racist propaganda, it would be a compliment to the British people, who apparently I thought were hardworking. But yea, I maintain that stereotype that Asian people outwork every other place on the planet. Next time you take a look at some product, let me know where it comes from. Let me know how much it was made for, and then let me know how much it would cost to make in Britain.

Is it still a racial stereotype, or an observation?

shame that this thread turned into another discussion about racism.
if i ever got a good job, that'd make me take DIRECT ACTION.

I'm not disputing that there are British people who are hard working, but there are also some lazy fucking British people too. Just as there are a few slim Americans.

But yeah, there are lazy Pakistanis, lazy Indians, Chinese etc etc... Each person is different and will have different individual work rates. Just cos a lot of things you happen to buy are from China, you can't assume that Chinese = Hard Working. That can be just as damaging an assumption as a negative one.

It's because their economies aren't as advanced as the Uk and there is currently a surfeit of labour, living conditions are cheaper, houses etc. It's a stupid comparison to make.
