EXACTLY. One of my favorite "dubstep" tracks... EL-B's Colleen Remix... tune is at 125. Good luck playing that one out... if you try you ain't gonna beatmatch it in or out, or it'll sound like SHIT.
I agree about ott pitching up/down, but my opinion has changed slighty.
The stuff I really like these days always seems to be at 145bpm (King Cannibal, Jamie Vexd-Saturn's reply, Bruce stallion-Black Rims (Ebola Remix), Raffertie-Wobble horror!, Akira Kiteshi's hiphopy stuff) or 135 (Tipper-Swipe (Dub),Bruce Stallion-Bad pillz,The Squire Of Gothos, Slugabed-ODB, Akira Kiteshi-Noglitch) off the top of my head...
changing of 5 or so BpM can give quite a different rhythm I think. Just listen to the above^
140 half step has just been rinsed and I can only stand the very very best. theres more room for innovation above and below 140.

145 is more than fine.. anything that you have to pitch more than +/- 8% is generally gonna sound like shite.. not to mention either moving the subs into mid/high range bass or just dropping the subs out all together (in the case of pitching too far down)

see thats where actual DJing comes in to it, ie tune selection. 140, then play a 142-143 tune then 145 then 147 etc

i think it should all be in 7/4 or 6/8 or maybe 7/4/5/2/8 and at an erratically varying 243bpm with gates on every drum hit, kick & cymbal that are designed to confuse you
that would ensure only the right people mix it

Ye, I'm sick of people thinking that they have the right to mix Dubstep...the nerve.

i make all my tunes at 140 because i love dubstep and i love fruity loops and and FL initializes at 140 so it was made for dubstep and if i were going to change it i would probably only change it ONE CENT

So how are things going today?
I think I'm feeling a bit 141 today, I should go see a doctor.

yeah it's called a tune that changes bpm
there's a few of them about but a lot of producer/DJs make their own as tools for mixing different stuff

Just use a set of belt drives like me....then even if all your tunes are 140bpm you still need to fuck with the pitch cos the dam belts are so old n shit they go at what eva speed they want......
