Your track was fresh tho, feel like i cant even give feedback on it which is probably due to lack of experience (seems stupid me giving you advice) but the trip hoppish kinda feel is really nice. But my question about the compression still stands, you know and good ones?
Just your stock-standard DAW compressor will work fine. I would google/youtube parallel/new york compression if want to learn about it though :)

PS - every single one of the sounds in my tune uses stock plugins - don't under estimate them :)
Really? wow. I know stock plugins can be powerful when used properly but i just feel 3rd party plugins make some things easier. Il youtube the compression now :) thanks mate.

I dunno about that. Every synth and instrument has it's pros and cons. I've just come to know my stock plugins really really well. I still have 3rd party ones, but I always find myself going back to stock stuff more often than not. Also, limiting yourself does wonders for your productions.

ps - this is another tune that's been in the works for about 6 weeks:

I've had some interesting tips/advice from a few people, looking for more criticisms.etc.

@amphibian thanks for the criticsm i personaly like this break but can understand your point; love the darker vibes in your newer wip could easily be played in a kryptic minds mix, i like when some snares go into space like with a really long reverb maybe just try that but not often maybe every 8 bars

@amphibian creepy kinda. I like it, though. The glitchy vocal in the intro is kinda hard to hear...not sure what it said but overall I love the track nice feel I like the synths.

@ChadDub brooooooo nice intro, probly the best intro I've heard from you...still sounds like a mario kart menu track or something haha. And nice basses, too, I see that Sytrus has been doing good to you lol.

@BevOh Not bad but drums need to be more interesting and, as Rando pointed out, it needs more click on the kick. Also too many yoy's for my taste.

Anyway, first time I've made a track like this and its not finished mastering stages yet. Made it for my sister's 18th birthday present because she listens to electronic fast-paced stuff so I'm hoping for feedback. Thoughts on using a limiter? Limiter made it sound bad to me because it completely got rid of the click in the kick so I rendered it without the limiter. Is it loud enough?

Also, I thought I'd add that this is the first track from me that she's ever said she liked :U:

@jsisreal: This track is giggen man, good shit! Just polish and master it and you've got a solid banger track

@amphibean: The track is cool but doesn't really go anywhere. Maybe a drop or melodic breakdown or something?

@BudSpencerton: Real epic tracks, no complaints all around :)

What you guys think of these ones?

@raincity - yeah it's a clip :) half the tune is missing. haha. I uploaded a while back but didn't post for feedback. Um (titan sound) - that gliding synth needs to go, or maybe drop it down by 4-5 db, it overpowers the whole tune and due to the long glide time makes it sound off-key most of it's life. I'd get rid of the massive bassline that comes in half way in, and probably just drop down to a sub or something.
for mr-1, I think you just do more of this. Really love it, good progression, nice beat. I'd bring up the hats 2 db though, make them a bit more prominent.

Other tune I was actually looking for feedback on :P

@amphibian: Word man, good start then. On my track, Yeah, it is rather shrill haha, the glide sound makes my dog tip his head to the side each time it comes in so that ain't good sign usually XD. Thanks for the feedback though, I'll work on that. As far as the other track you wanted FB on.. its pretty cool homie! Its a little quiet and tame for me at the moment but has a nice lil groove going there, the composition and instruments themselves are solid..I only have these shitty dr.dre headphones to listen to it on but maybe a loudness increase?

@Dubasco: Solid track man. The synths could use a little space or augmenting or something, or maybe adding another higher pitched one for more build? nice work.

Heres another one I'm kinda stuck on...I'm tryna rework this one to make it a bit more hype (even though it already clips..beware). I originally made it with intentions to put an emcee on it but just want a dub track instead. Sorta new to this dubstep sound... evidently XD

@raincity206 - Nicely done, like it when the reese bass or whatever it is, kicks in. Though I think you should phatten that wobble a bit, just my opinion!

@amphibian - Daaamn, that's some chilly stuff you fucking with here, reminds me of Joker! I have no idea how to improve that!

@jsisreal - Pretty cool track, dig the beat and the intro is solid! I would love to hear some more variation, because I think it gets kinda boring a little while in! Keep at it, though!

Here my W.I.P - I'm not really sure how to improve it, but I definitely know it ain't done!

Nice, but I don't like that bass in the intro. Also, the wobble is a little bit too light. Try doubling up the LFO Depth.
And thanks for compliment :)

@ DubMikey I like the intro up till the lead came in (Kinda reminds of a old snes lead if thats what you were going for) I'm anti-brostep lol, The kick and snare sound very weak on my speakers and there doesnt seem to be a sub only mid bass?

@Raincity206 Drums sound fine the snare seems a bit weak maybe whack a slight reverb on it?, the intro does take forever i'd say stop it around the 30 second mark.

@Dubasco Not my cup of tea sounds nerostep, Snare seems a bit weak maybe whack some reverb on and lower the mid bass a bit :)

My work in progress so far

@raincity - man, I LOVE when dogs do that, so cute! haha. I'd leave it in there just so that you can get him to do that on cue. haha

@jsisreal - pretty cool beat, a few things about the intro: remove that sub that comes in half way, or change it up. Doesn't fit. Also, that sidechained synth, I'd not detune it so much, it sounds a little messy. You also need to change it up every 8 bars - that synth starts to become quite grating after a while. I'd probably remove everything just before the breakdown but leave the sub/beat.

@dubmikey - I think you've got the right idea with the intro. That vocal sample needs to be pitched down a few notes - it's not in key with the rest. Also because it's a rather "dark" sounding tune, lowering half an octave (6 semitones), then the vocal will better match the vibe. Snare is very weak, layer it with something that has a thick bottom end (hitting around 200hz). Also, swap out modern talking oscillator on your massive patch. It's overused, and overdone - and I think you can do better :) Breakdown is really nice, I like it, fits really well. Overall I think you have the right idea, and I think this could be a rather decent tune. Also look at the tonality of all your synths, not all fit perfectly (try low-passing them a bit, give them a little resonance). Automations are great, they keep things interesting. I can tell you've really tried on this track, it shows :) Also look at altering up your hi-hat patterns, as I think the same pattern is used the whole tune. Try adding a ride every on-beat (2 and 4) - they help to drive the tune along. Another thing - some parallel compression would do wonders for your beat. I think that's it :P

@lucaskane - I would do more for a tune before posting a WIP =\ Overall really nice vibe, freakin' love that snare you've made, really nice. Tbh I don't understand the wobbles thrown in. I mean they work, but I just don't why they're there :)

My bad I make an intro then about 32 bars after the drop then just work on the intro (I think the intro makes the tune if you get the intro spot on the rest will fall in place).

I usually don't throw a wobble in but I felt like it needed a bit of funk to it a slight one just to stop it from becoming a lullaby, I wasn't too sure if it worked though.

It definitely worked - it's the right tone, sound.etc. I just dunno if it's right for the tune is all ;) As for the intro, I couldn't disagree more. Your intro isn't "your tune", that's what your main hook is. hehe

@LucasKane - That intro is tight as hell. The snare and hats are perfect. Personally I'd glitch it up the percussion in a couple of places just for flavour. The kick sticks out a bit - I'm not sure why, but I think it's because it's a bit dull while the rest of the perc is really crisp and nice. I'd try a different kick sample, or pick out a couple of similar-sounding ones and use both. I sometimes layer up a couple of kicks and then just adjust the velocity to change the tone of a particular hit. I'm undecided about the wobbles. They sound good but I'd have to hear more before I could say whether or not they fit the track. But I want to hear more :W:

@ LUCASKANE: I really did like that, I love the percussion that you used, it's really like electronic but smooth at the same time. I reminds me of a track I did a few months ago called Melostep, I'm likin it.

@ RAINCITY206: That was really cool what you did with one of those basses, the one the fades in really loudly once in a while. I really just like that oldschool square style you have goin on. When that really low detuned saw synth came on it lost it though. Tweak that synth and it'll be good though.

@ DUBASCO: THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME.

Here's my WIP, a little more progressed. I'd really like some advice on how to mix it better, I'm struggling to keep it full but not overdo it.

@ChadDub - your problem with the mixdown is trying to keep it "full". Follow the moneyshot thread and go from there. You can always normalize upon export if needs be. That thread has all the advice you could ever need. Snare is still really lacking mate, very weak. Needs to come up several dbs, as well - which will probably make the whole tune peak, so you then need to notch the snare's main hit out of all your bass synths.
