Wasn't able to stay in bed all day as I'd hoped would be the case when I went to sleep last night.

My wife is trying to quit smoking.
I`ve never smoked so I don`t understand the physical, mental and emotional addiction.
She is naturally pissed off at the world now because of a chemical imbalance resulting from pms and non-smoking.
She has been baiting me into arguments for the last day, she even admitted to doing it but is too pissed off to stop.
So she finally broke down and went to the shop to buy cigs.
Before she went though, she once again baited me into an argument, all of these arguments are about smoking or similarly related.
So she starts by saying she`s going to go buy smokes because she can`t take it, what do I think?
So I was honest and told her that I can`t do anything to help her with this, either she stops or doesn`t.
Either she goes to buy the smokes or just sucks-it up and doesn`t smoke.
What more could I say?
She proceeds to dump on me for not supporting her during this.
If I`d told her to not go, she would have been upset because she couldn`t smoke.
If I`d told her to go, I`m not supporting.
Either way, I can`t win.
Personally I don`t understand.
Why is it that I`ve never smoked and don`t care to, but I need to support her emotionally, etc. etc.
So what she`s saying is that she's is incapable of quitting without my help.
Help being?
I`ll be wrong either way.
I actually want to say to her, you created this, you stop it.
Either you have the emotional strength to deal with your shit or not but how the fuck did it become my fault?

when your starving yourself of nicotine it changes the way you think making you very snappy at anyone who says anything, best thing to do if someones quiting is just to try and persuade them to carry on with it even though its hard, it gets easiers after the first week or so
the problem is when your craving your brain makes up reasons why you should start again even if you have alot of willpower its difficult to overcome your own thoughts as it were, so basically just try your best to help her quit even if you get an earfull for the short term

unfortunatly, as much as its her fault, you are married and all her shit is your shit too .....
so all you can do is just try and get her mind off of it.... talk walks, draw her a bath, give her a massage etc....
anyways, the shittyness usually subsides after a week.... & seeing as youve been with her awhile (i assume) im sure you can handle anything she give ya

just keep saying 'i have faith in you i know you can give it up'
then when you catch her smoking say "you remember that day when i said 'i have faith in you...' , well that's now gone"
WARNING - May cause an argument.
and southstar, whats going on in Reading , it's only like 45 minutes on the train...

yeh brother, going on 10 years now.
It`s not that I can`t handle it or I don`t help in the situation, she just doesn`t curb her BS.
Which I guess I can`t expect considering she`s having enough problems quitting the smoking,
I suggested she have one smoke a day to help with the craving and to reduce the stress related to stopping but that also got her upset.
I guess I just need to ride it out.
Getting her mind off of it is really not easy as it`s been such a huge part of her life for soo many years.
Brett - I wouldn`t dare confront her about smoking. It`s easier for me if she smokes to be honest. But I know it`s terrible for her.
