Yeah that 'synthesize vowel information' confused me as well. I've always been unclear on the concept of FM synthesis and growls, what parameter to actually modulate to get the growling bit. I'm guessing you automate one of the modulators inside the synth but I never could be arsed to pick it up even though I bought FM8 for that exact purpose. It's all very intimidating. Btw Smile I sent you a PM, check it brah.
It's kinda difficult to explain exactly how to do it in text but you basically wanna use a triangle wave as modulator on a "single-resonant" routing so that it can split into a "double-resonant" (a.k.a vowel). This however creates two problems, namely:
1. The two resonances (or formants whatever you want to call them called them that) are basically duplicates of the same waveform = unrealistic
2. It becomes very difficult to make whatever vowel formation you want = fuck that
That's not even the whole story theres a lot of annoying details why making this organic sort of vowel isn't optimal to do with purely fm. That said you can still make some pretty sick vowels sounds with fm8, but you'll find making it sound like it's coming from some sort of "live creature" indeed very hard.

Smile, what do you use for getting that vowel sound/movement? It sounds nice.

smile, that sounds sick, didn't understand a word of what you said tho, if you could give some tips it would be sick, you nailed it.

Got this out of Sytrus for all you FL users. I think it has potential, could sound alright with some fine tuning.

Doesn't really sound like KTN but I thought it was a good way to show the automation XD

Thanks. I'm really not using anything you guys aren't using though. I'm just using it a incy winchy bit differently, I think. I'll leave it for you guys to figure out.

Well the most basic example would be a triangle modulating a sine. Again that's
not the technique I used to do my shit. If you only want to make the sort of creature-like growl that I did it will save you millions of hours trying to understand how fm8 works exactly.

smile - awesome sound design. Beyond that - that track sounds really good. Is it done? Where can I buy it?

I really appreciate the support and I'm still working on it.

When you modulate a sine wave by a triangle wave in fm8 it gives you a peak in output's frequency spectrum. just fyi.

What are you automating there? filters? Knobs in the matrix?

Whats with the mystery? is there anything a bit more specific you can go into, I got that you don't want to just give it away, but anything a TAD more specific, something to guide at least... saying "i'm using the same stuff as you guys", we already know that, thats the whole deal, its like when skrillex said "im using FM8 for the growls", its cool, you got something cool, throw us a bone here at least. If you just want to get noticed, go to the promotion forum i'd say. Not trying to bitch it tho, the clips you showed are sick, amazing work there.

Modulation amount of osc 1 (triangle wave) with a high pass (up to 43%) and low pass (50% - full). Most of it is the high pass though.

Maybe it was silly of me to post here because i never really had any intentions of sharing any specifics. Who would benefit from that anyway? Surely not me or the guy with high ambitions. I've spent more time reaching for these sounds than I dare say, and for the most part it's really depressing because I have no idea what I'm doing (still don't). But then you figure something out or have a small breakthrough and you keep going. In a sense it will rob people of experience and the feeling you get after figuring something out whether that person likes it or not.
I mentioned earlier that the vowel isn't a fundamental movement created with fm but it doesn't mean it's useless to understand how to do that, it's actually really cool how it works. I'm not trying to be noble though, I'm mostly not sharing because I don't want a bunch of youtube tutorial hacks take credit for my shit and then every kid who don't even know how a compressor works can do it.

I RESTORED MY FAITH IN VOCODERS
https://www.dropbox.com/s/worlpy43ioy96 ... OCODEX.mp3 (HQ 320kbps for full growling experience)
I basically took my old growl made in fm8 and replaced the modulation filter with a vocoder.

BOOM. Kill The Noise growl. Made this tonight and i'm pretty happy with the result. I used massive simply because I heard that Kill The Noise uses it.
Soundcloud
It proves to be very versatile and the vowels are easily morphed. I finally think i'm getting somewhere lol
