To me, everything is perfect... (in my probably unnecessarily picky opinion) except the bass from the start, too scratchy for my liking - FM synth with multiple waveforms, right? It sounds exactly like something I made before - try setting all waveforms to the same fine tuning or reece them (double all oscillators then fine tune one set up and the other set down by the same amount) and just lowpass it (with bit of tracking, to taste), make sure you've got plenty of sub-bass to make it feel *umphy* without necessarily being able to hear it. To still get the same edgy electrical metamorphosis sound but slightly more pulsing, set the LFO to pitch (maybe invert the LFO curve so the peak of the musical notes are in tune) instead of filter cutoff and fiddle with the resonance to make it feel like the pitch is making some pressure - this way you get not only added high-end harmonics but also a pulse in the lower end. Use sawtooth or asymmetrical square wave forms to get rich textures with good dynamics without having to resort to distortion/clipping effects that flatten and compress the signal.
nice percussion on that track! how do you get drums sounding so crisp?test recordings wrote:
Yeah sounds sick otherwise, even if it's not verse/chorus/verse/chorus etc it'll just end up like most Benga tunes and be the same thing repeated over and over again...wizeguy wrote:Yea sounds ok masterchief. idk i'd probably have the intro sorta fade out near the drop or something... needs some progression - maybe add some percussion to it later on
Pretty much this, it's a really nice track but it lacks structure, could use a better mixdown too, I get the feeling that the mix is drowning in reverbs and it's not very "centered"wizeguy wrote:Yea sounds ok masterchief. idk i'd probably have the intro sorta fade out near the drop or something... needs some progression - maybe add some percussion to it later on
