Yeah I feel like I'm suffering from cerebral palsy when I play shooters on a console. If only I could explain to my console-playing mates how hard I'd be dominating them if I was just using a proper form of control...

SSX on the 360. Pretty good fun, my only complaint being the fucking awful soundtrack. What is it with EA and their soundtracks?

Thank the lord for custom soundtracks.

I think Sleeping Dogs had one of the better soundtracks of recent times with licensed tunes on it. All about Warp and Ninja Tune radio.

Loved Sleeping Dogs. Beating the shit out of people in the club while Flying Lotus plays was a highlight.

Combined Ops is what you want for the base game for most multiplayer compatibility, the rest is all DLC.
If you want it just for DayZ *cringe*, you just need Combined Ops, Private Military Company will give you higher res character models and such.
It's worth noting you can still play multiplayer missions and such with the added DLC content (new weapons, maps etc) as Bohemia offers lite versions for free that just aren't as high res or included for single player or (don't quote me on this) mission making compatibility.

The base game is a much better experience that often gets overlooked due to DayZ's popularity. Hell even the Wasteland mission which requires no mod downloads is often a better experience than DayZ.
Don't get me wrong, DayZ is fun, but it barely scratches the surface of what you can do in Arma.
Pretty much the *cringe* is at people bitching (not here, but on tons of gaming sites and forums) that they got ripped off since they bought a game just for a free mod and ignore the base game.
That and they think they're entitled to the standalone for free because they once again bought Arma 2 just for a free mod.

Take a look at some of ShackTac's vids on youtube for examples of what you can do with normal Arma (well with a couple mods like ACE and ACRE).

Man, genuinely no offence meant, I know there's a massive hardcore fanbase and appreciation for the ultra realistic approach BI has taken with Arma. But the game is shonky at best. Unless you have the opportunity to join one of the massive clans then the game is not good. The single player is one of the buggiest games I have played (not actually gassing) and the MP is made by the community rather than the game (relying on the fact there isn't another game trying to achieve what Arma does). The Wasteland mission and the DayZ mod are great fun, but jesus the base game is poor.

I agree with Pete in some regards.
The amount of times I walked through walls, lost body parts, got killed by doors, etc.

Still, I agree with Deadly that the base game is great.

yeah it's fun because of the scope of the engine and the way the community uses it, rather than the game itself though (tl:dr version).

At release singleplayer was a buggy mess, the latest beta patches and such have fixed a bunch. You don't need a massive clan to have fun, for one of those all out battles maybe. A small group with someone skilled at making missions (or you can download missions) can make for just as good of an experience.
Wasteland and DayZ are good for an introduction to some of the base gameplay though. I just think while good fun as you said, there is a major detachment from those gamemodes/mod and the sim element of the base game.
Hell I'd love if ACE and ACRE could get tacked onto DayZ and Wasteland (probably possible for at least wasteland, but I don't have my own server to test it on).
Personally Arma 3 is one of the only games coming out that I'm pumped for the release.

Well the SP missions/campaigns are kind of shonky I'll agree there, but they serve as an example of what you can do with the engine and tools, and boy does Arma have modding and dev tools for the public to have fun with.
