Yeah, he's fantastic. Have been listening to his soundcloud alot recently after I found that tutorial, his growls are sick!
Does he have any plans on making any more fm8 tutorials anytime soon?
Oh and what's the name of the producers group btw?
Um.. Well I'm not sure. I will ask him later tonight on Skype if he gets online. But, I believe he said he was going to do another one. Not sure on what specific growl. But, he probably will. I mean just judging from some of the presets he shared with our group, he seems to know his stuff about them (at least in Massive. Hes OKAY, with FM8 and Sytrus). But, I'm not sure exactly how much information he's willing to share to just the public. But, yeah the name of our group is the FlProducersCommunity, [FPC]. But, we are currently in the process of restarting the project/group and remove the DAW restriction. Heres our channel, when we reopen our group to producers I will post and do my best to promote the channel on this forum to those who may be interested. We've got alot of sick guys in the group already, and it's only be about 3 months since we started now. Yeah, I'm one of the co-founders and managers of the group, feel free to PM if your interested in join. Note we accept anyone producer from any DAW. And when we make a new channel this will become more clear. And no, we are not a promotion label/channel/ or record label of any kind. We are just a group of guys that chat on Skype and happen to promote our work and collabs on one collective channel.
That's big for sure, hook. Don't tease the drop though, gotta post a full clip asap.

Could anyone help me out? I made this using massive and my favorite shape or osc setting (not sure what its called) is carbon I have gotten some great sounds from it but a lot of them have popping and clicking in it. Does anyone know how I can make it sound smoother/more professional?
Any criticism would be appreciated. Also what are some effects used for your bases? I have heard about formant filtering and waveshaping and have just begun trying to
learn more about the effects. Can anyone recommend VST's? or other tools used for bass?

What did you use to get the talking?
I used both, WOW Filter with E and Ü vowels (I played very slightly with cutoff) and EQ

Get the mids to be more upfront and you'd have your self a really nice unique growl

Saw this earlier. Probably the greatest sound I have EVER seen in an fm8 youtube video.
Gonna have a go at recreating that now, we'll see what happens.
Oh cool, you found my tutorial
Thanks for your kind words
And yeah I'm planning on making more tutorials, but I'm reeeeally busy with school, so they're a long while away :/
In the meantime, I suppose I could post stuff here now and then, it's a lot faster than making tutorials XD

All of my growls and stuff come from either Massive or FM8.. I have used Sytrus in the past, but I prefer FM8 because it sounds Skrillexier
The "I can has bun dem" growl is basically a Massive diarrhea patch, with an EQ on it to attenuate formant frequencies. If you've seen The Mavrik's growl/bass producer pack demo vid, I just copied the EQ settings from his EQ Eight and put it after Massive XD
I roflcoptered the sound a bit with iZotope Ozone (Loud Brickwall preset) and EQ'd it further with Fabfilter Pro-Q.
The order of the FX chain is: Massive --> Ozone --> EQ Eight (Formant thingie) --> Fabfilter Pro-Q
Then I added my sidechain compressors to kick and snare, that's the complete sound.
The "I tried to Skrillex" growl is a bit more complicated. I use multiple instances of EQ Eight and other things on a squishie bass massive patch and automate both Massive, and my effects rack to get that huge vowely movement. I might do tutorials on this as well, because I'll die of old age trying to explain it through text

You bastard, Jay I swear you better not. Lets keep that growl within the group

I find that FM can be overrated a bit. Sure, it has advantages for some things, but I find that the Massive wavetables, if you use them properly, give pretty good results a lot easier than FM. They're just a lot more workable. All the basses in my last track were 100% Massive:

First off nice clip! Cool beats you got going on there, but just because something is "easier" is probably a bad reason to prefer that synth. FM8 has this signature bite that, ironically, would sound really amazing if you managed to fit it into that clip of yours instead of the vowel bass you've made in massive.

I'd say making sounds that noone had heard before is alot easier in fm8 aswell. Not counting additional processing
