I guess thats my ultimate question when it comes to aliens. Do we have anything to offer them or are they surveying us because they need/want something they eventually plan on taking.

A lot of people believe a 'technology reset' has already occurred. If you subscribe to the theory that the planet has been wiped out at least once and likely multiple times then it's not an unrealistic thought that out of necessity our species may have evacuated the planet at some point.

If tomorrow we found out that a meteor would strike earth in 100 years, then the next 100 years would see the most exponential human technological growth out of sheer survival. In the event that we vacated the planet in time to survive as a species, it would make sense that thousands of years later when our planet was inhabitable again, we'd want to return. The returning humans would be thousands of years more advanced than the humans who were born post reset

I think the time travelling idea isn't a bad one.

The reset the earth one doesn't hold out to well. Maybe if the whole universe reset and beings were then travelling back from another dimension?

just watched the video in the OP, pretty awesome stuff. that one about pi is amazing, wouldnt be surprised if the mind that came up with that design had an electromagnetic printer of some sort, or if it was Gaia/God/Whatever sending messages...

not to mention some of those designs are truly beautiful and do strike a deep chord within me
