Nikon D50 or Canon 350D, both Digital SLR's, both entry level, both alright if your just starting out in photography/manual photography, not point and click stuff, and both reasonably cheap.
If your in it for the long run, I recomend the Nikon D200 or the newer D300...I'll be upgrading once the summer bonus comes! Or if ur a pro, try Nikon D3!!! BIG money!! over £3000 just for the body!!!
the lower the aperture on your lens, the better...means u can shoot in darker places, get wider shots and get closer to things (or get a macro lens!) but obviously because they are better they are more expensive!!
goodluck with your purchase
(I have a bias for Nikon over all other digital SLR companies...except Hassleblad blad!)

I'm well impressed and inspired by some of these! May have to look into purchasing a better camera. Here's a few I got on my 'phone a while back:
Trike spotted in Leeds, near where I work.
Photo of me in a metal club with Chimaira blasting out.
Sunset on the M1 taken from a Mercedes SLK at 80 mph... Not bad for a 2mp Nokia with no flash!
Day out to a steam railway last weekend... Had to take a few to remember the golden days!

I tried doing a few of those photos with the colour turned into black and white except maybe green or something and failed.
Any photoshop tips or guides for it?
Also Mike Z what camera do you have?

Hmmm. Well I use various methods depending on the image and what exactly I'm selecting. I use the polygonal lasso tool a lot; i also save selections a lot, so I can add to it later if I need to. Sometimes you can get away with using saturation adjustment and dropping the saturation to zero on all but whatever color you want left. Most of the time I select, inverse the selection, and convert the rest to black and white. Selective color selection works great too, it's under the 'select' menu at the top. Zoom in as far as possible when drawing your selections by hand, it takes time but is worth it.
All of these shots were taken with my Sony Alpha-100 using Sigma or Minolta lenses. I also own a Minolta Dynax 7000i 35mm SLR. I use a wireless hand-held flash quite a bit.
I went the Sony route since I shot with Minolta, and Sony took over Minolta. Canon, Nikon, and others are good too...
