LOL @ the moron who seems to think 'Dub' is British slang for Reggae.

Dub music originated in Jamaica you absolute speng, it's nothing to do with terminology, learn your roots.

more then anything:

mt eden and other shitty producers who combine pop songs with dubstep for fast youtube views and fame. honestly it is not even that hard to do this and the only people it attracts are 12-16 year old little shithead teenagers who dont know shit about shit. and then they go and show these "dubstep" tunes to all their little homophobe. friends and think they are cool and shit. i know this first hand as i had a younger brother who went through that whole cycle and it was fucking hilarious to witness but at the same time kind of sad.

just in the past couple of months we have had some pretty big names roll thru including EOTO, Zeds Dead, Reso, Siren, Broken Note, Smilodon and Toffler, HD4000, Two Fresh, Vibe Squad, Caspa, and a few others. and coming up we have some good shows including 12th Planet, Nero, and talk of Rusko, so i mean we have a decent little scene going, but the cool thing is that even with names like these, we arent drawing MASSIVE crowds. probably somewhere between 300-500 people for the bigger names and it usually the same cool people who are not fanboys or nutsingers (but of course those type of people will be there)

so luckily dubstep has not been ruined here yet, but honestly whats made it shittier around here is main stream rap (or "radio rap") remixes. I say this because people who have never heard the genre before youtube their rap-pop and then they will see a dubstep remix and so they click it, like it, and start following related links until they think they are THE dubsteppaahh.

Example- this guy recently denounced dubstep to me, saying it was retarded and "just a bunch of noise." Then he caught a hold of a rap remix he like and a week later is saying that tracks are "filthy" and that he "only listens to grime." and comes up to me and asks me if ive ever heard of Caspa. lol. so thats whats going to be the downfall i think. nut swinging fanboy Hi, I'm a homophobe. but hopefully not here in St. Louis for a long time.
STL knows how to get down to dubstep....nuff said. :m:

I have nothing to contribute to this thread really, and since it's already gone to shit, I want to test out this newfangled "Hi, I'm a homophobe." wordfilter.

homophobe.

i think you would find that there is still a larger population of dub fans than dubstep fans in the US. a bit offensive to both sides. i don't know anyone who considers these interchangeable, and declaring that we just have different "terminology" for very distinctive WORLDWIDE music genres isn't true.
i literally took off the step from dub. you act like i called hip-hop country music... all i meant by all of that was in my specific location where i am currently right now and with the people i talk to, sometimes we just shorten it.. i know there is a difference and when i was typing, since i do use it in my speech sometimes, it just slipped out.. and i did not ever say once that dub was the same thing as dubstep lol,not sure why everyone got so offended by a shortened version of a word.

and i think you would be hard pressed to find any multitude of dubstep fans in the US at all, honestly. BECAUSE for the most part, the majority of "dubstep" fans are really fans of something a little different (i believe the term BROstep was coined for this?) seems like the majority (not EVERYONE and not the VAST majority, but the majority nonetheless) of people in the US who go to shows (mostly the kids and people who ONLY go because they like the way it sounds when they are on drugs) are more into the heavy-bass drop-generic-jump-up-wobble-filth-grime etc etc. and not into the roots of actual dubstep.

just my opinion.

well, yeah. i think that's obvious. just look at all the griping on this forum about how US brosteppas are tasteless and ruining the scene.
that doesn't make it excusable to just settle for ignorance on the sound or mediocre artists capitalizing on the popular wobble.

EDIT: i mean music promoters and proponents of the scene settling, when they know there's something more out there. people and fans are of course subject to their own personal tastes.

Settle? no. i dont and wont. but thats for me and what i choose to listen to on my own time. the fact is tho that "it is what it is." and by that i mean people in the US like brostep. thats the way it is and thats the way its going to be until it burns out mainstream. because of this, like i stated earlier in the thread, from a business standpoint, you have to look at it like this:

majority of US "dubstep" fans= brostep > roots dubstep

US brostep/popstep producers= biggest fan base.

biggest fan base= biggest shows

biggest shows= most money.

so yea, i wont settle for what i listen to, but if you want to make any money from shows, you have to get a good mix of producers you actually want to see live and listen to (but maybe not the most popular) vs. producers that a lot of people know/have a large fan base. i guess its not "ideal", but it is what it is at this point.. :e:

i mean, its not the money that "ruined" it. its only ruined for people who actually know what they are talking about when it comes to dubstep. its ruined for them because they see this popstep craze spreading very quickly through ignorant people who will only listen to it for a limited period of time until something else becomes popular or until they get tired of going to bullshit raves, and then they get generalized into this group even if they oppose that style.

the money aspect of it is an off-shoot of that. i mean, i know guys who make their living off shows and promotions, and when shows are your only money making source, its less about what you want and more about whats going to do well. money didnt ruin it. money rarely ruins things, it just creates more problems. life is about money and you need money to live, so if you can make a substantial amount more by booking a popstep artist, you will do it. the only way to book whatever producers you want regaurdless of who will come is to become extremely wealthy.

again, just an opinion. everyone sees it differently

EDIT: money does NOT ruin anything. Greed does.
