If we're talking drum edits its not even a contest. Skullstep far more talented than boom tsk boom tsk two step bullshit.
if we're talking lack of musical talent or overusing the same effects then twisted, baron, distorted minds (personal dirty secret fav), clipz, a lot of BBK, were pretty bro
Hm, maybe I should give skullstep another shot.

i love a bit of jump up in the dance but some tunes are so contrived, revolving around the same few tropes not unlike bro. taxman is a bit of a culprit here TBH. hazard too, although wicked so is one of my favourite tunes. that said, i don't really listen to that side of dnb much, am more into critical, med school, shogun etc where i do, but there is definitely a lot of neon shite out there
cannot pass by any dnb thread without mentioning royalston though. that guy

Personally I wouldn't go near some of the new crossbreed stuff, fucking sounds like gabber.
I'd suggest:
Current Value - 2012: The Day Of Silence
Current Value - Back To The Machine
Current Value & Donny - Revolt & Riot
Counterstrike - Insubordonation
Counterstrike - Collaboration EP Part 1
Gein - The Clergy EP
SPL & Eye D - Kings Of The Universe EP
VA - Freak Family Drum Circle Explosion LP

Can't stand that skullstep shit. Respect it for the talent it takes to make it, but I can't take more than two tunes of it.

i hate that some talented producers went to hard/skullstep
like counterstrike for one, they used to make some of the best trancish dnb back when and was hard, i used to buy their releases on sight, now meh
but i love shit like current value and gein, i actually got told to stop playing current value and proket once during a gig because no one can dance to it

LOL i was going to mention CS in my earlier post when the guy was asking for recommendations, thought against it if he started looking at stuff beyond their moving shadow, human imprint, and some of their early algorythm releases. Love their NVD remix and the Wardance EP.

can't stand that some people think gabber or hardcore is a dirty word
It's the same musical theory involved in techno which is generally adored here and the same speed and gabber/hardcore neighborness as breakcore which is also adored here.
For me the appeal with teaming up with mindsaw and getting knee deep in skullstep was fulfilling my primal need to hear drum edits. Dubstep and 99.99999% of drum and bass is literally two step with a fill now and then. The appeal of those genreas is the drone or the sway involved.... for me I still get that in skullstep/technoid tunes. I know it sounds ass backwards but a lot of the people really into skullstep/technoid seem to be those big on minimal techno. The nuiances are there, in the same way you might appreciate cymbal and fill edits in minimal you really appreciate your drum edits in skullstep.
Dunno guess i see it as the some of all its parts. But to each their own

I very much dislike this sub-genre "brostep" Not the music...just the term itself.
Music is music, shush and listen to what you want...who cares what people call it.

It was really just called tearout or filth at first and I think Richie August or Claw or someone in one of their posts on this forum used the term brostep and it was mad jokes for a bit and it just stuck

I don't think it's a dirty word, I just can't stand it personally. Old ATR is as hardcore as I wanna go tbh. Also never liked the ravey/mashup/hardcore type breakcore.

I'd take skullstep over brostep any day of the week. No shame in brocking out to some skullstep on occasion.
