I'm dreading my career path, I'm trying to steer well away from workin for big pharma. I'm more interested the biological aspects of the work anyway. We do stuff in PCR and that kinda thing, which I find much more interesting (though no doubt this aspect of science has already been or will be eaten up by the man at some point)

aliens are totally out of my comfortable realm of thinking so i have no comment on that.
HOWEVER i do believe i have felt the presence of a spirit before. i dislike the term 'ghost' because it's assumed that it's something you can see, a quantifiable object or being, but this was more of this nagging feeling that someone else was around.
back story:
was coming off of a roll in my friend's basement a few years ago.. had been in this basement many times before and there was always something kinda off-putting about it, but i could never put my finger on quite what it was. this time there were four of us down there, chatting shit, doing whatever, and i realized what i was feeling and said it out loud: "i keep feeling like there's someone else here, but there's just four of us.." meanwhile my friend who lived there glanced knowingly at a couple of other friends who apparently were in on it all, and after me prodding for several minutes (probably would have been better for her to save it for another time given my delicate... mindset at the time) she revealed that a couple years before her mom had bought the house, the previous owners' two year old son had fallen down the laundry chute and died in the basement very near where we were sitting.
i burst into tears on the spot.
still don't go down in that basement.

I've read that ghosts are supposed to be the energetic remains of your persona/ego, not your soul. Normally they decay not so long after you die but in some occasions it is so attached to the reality it has know for it's whole life that it doesn't want to decay.. eventually after a long time it will dissolve like everything does.
Then other ghosts/demons/jinns/.. are other topics.
You also have some lower level ghosts/spirits/beings that can manifest itself in our reality but only if you consciously let them. (like playing that jiblabla board or something). They feed off the energy that you radiate but don't see. They are said to be like little irritant parasites and once they've made that energy connection they're hard to get rid of.
This is stuff that I read in several writings of mystics

there's no logic to the supernatural - there can't be by definition. trying to use logic to argue anything involving it is utterly pointless. you either believe it, or you dont. IMO of course.

I've never been able to explain it.... we ran someone over... I mean, properly ran someone the fuck over... we both screamed, I slammed on the brakes and we clearly hit them, but they had vanished by the time the car stopped and I jumped out.
Wasn't in Hampshire was it?
This is pretty much my experience. I was a passenger in the front seat, missus was driving, her friend in the back. Coming down a stretch of road which has a 12ft stone wall on either side. Something that I can only describe as looking like, "a tall sheep running on it's hind legs" () suddenly appeared out of the wall, ran in front of the car and vanished into the wall on the other side.
All three of us saw it and yelled out because we knew we were going to it hit. Shit, she even slammed on the anchors and the car skidded to a halt.
I'll never ever forget that and we still talk about it.

No joke, same thing in my house. We built a house when I was a kid, one night as they were finishing the house, a construction worker remained behind to finish something up. Night fell, there was no power, he thought he was going out the front door, but it was the door to basement. He fell down the flight of stairs and smashed his head onto the concrete floor, and died. A huge blood stain soaked into the cement, and never came out. You'd open the door to the basement, and that dim shaft of light would shine down in the darkness, just strong enough to see the horrific stain at the bottom of the steps. Was spooky down there to say the least.

rephrase,
where does our "energy of emotions and conciousness" go.
and in a universe so large how can't other intelligent lifeforms be in existence. We have no idea whats on the other side of a black hole.

That's the self, the soul. That reincarnates or if you've done your best it goes back to the source (I mean that's what I've read, not claiming that this is the truth)

I like the way SNH is so full of top world experts in theoretical physics, religion, philosophy, psychology, politics, economics etc etc rather than a bunch of know it all student stoners that like bass heavy music trying to out do each other on the internet.

Nice!
No, mine was in Somerset... Barrow Gurney, on a quiet stretch of road going past the old mental hospital. Couldn't get a more cliched setting!!
Remember, Ninjas... open your mind too much and your brain might fall out.

i Always though that blackholes if you were able to survive one, are wormholes to go back in time ..i dont know how to explain this
like that philosophical thought, seeing as light takes a year to travel a light year. if we put a giant mirror 50 light years away (big enough to see from earth) would we see the relfection of the earth 50 years ago? (not counting the time it takes the light to reflect back)
