My first ever console was a zx spectrum.
It had a tape recorder connected with rca cables and used std cassette tapes to load the games.
You typed in a load command and pushed play in the tape recorder.
It screeched to high heaven while you waited for the game to load.

Lost a lot of time to the Dizzy games in my youth. Had to do them in one sitting too as there was no save function
I used to leave post-it notes on my Megadrive and Amiga telling my Mum not to turn them off to get around this... pause, TV off, post-it on.... tantrum if my game's disappeared by the time I get back!

Tomb Raider was just after my time... my only abiding memory of it was being at a mate's house party and a couple of my friends bursting into his little brother's bedroom where they found him wanking to the intro sequence.
