Re: punk rock
Nice thread down memory lane, love the Misfits and Descendants still to this day, and since no one has posted this jem yet...
Or this.

Re: punk rock
probably not the Placebo your thinking of. They were a local band from Calgary Alberta. The singer Leslie, went on to start that band Feist that made that gay counting song that was on that iPod commercial.Genevieve wrote:omfg placebo! urry me n urry uuuuuuu :'0
Re: punk rock
Yeah I know. I mean, I knew it wasn't that Placebo and I GUESSED it was Feist's band. I'm a very dedicated (OBSESSEDDD!!!111) Broken Social Scene fanboy, so I knew of the band :0
I'm NOT into Placebo :'0

whole tune is great but the breakdown at 3:10 makes me want to incite a riot
detestation & nausea were both great bands with female vocalists (nausea had a male and female vocalist)

G.I.S.M.'s first album :0 One of my favorite bands. Also from Japan
Also Japanese, a Death Side album. Heavily influenced by later-era G.I.S.M (like, hardcore punk with very melodic NWOBHM type leads and solos).
It was a popular sound in the mid/late '80s in Japan because of G.I.S.M. Even modern metalcore can be traced back to them. Some of the first metal+hardcoe bands were inspired by G.I.S.M, like the American band Rorschach. Napalm Death were too actually, especially vocally.
Not a full release but a band I've rocked A LOT in mah days

MORE!!
Y, a German thrashcore/grindcore band. It's one of their albums broken up into several videos
The Endless Blockade, a powerviolence revival band. Crossed Out/Capitalist Casualties/No Comment, etc.
Fear Of God, one of the first grindcore bands. They're Swiss.
Blistering grindcore from Germany, Yacöpsae. A full record of theirs too
I'm liking the modern production value on some of these. Thoguht it would ruin the sound for me but the itnensity is still thurrr
Edit: One last record for the time being. A Japanese classic that spawned a whole subgenre
Confuse - Spending Loud Night
It's been said that the guitarist tried to replicate the sound of cicada locusts with his guitar, hence the distorted hissy tone. Some really badass stuff. A lot of Japanese bands started doing this sound after them too and there's been some American bands popping up doing the same stuff (Merciless Game, Lebenden Toten... both really good). This is some REALLY lo-fi shit doe.

One of the greatest shows of my life was The Accused (Martha Splatterhead era) opening for GBH... 1987? 88? Oh man.mks wrote:I used to see these guys a lot. The Accused:
So I thought I'd share this with y'all: a little girl's reaction to hearing Bad Brains for the very first time. I know exactly how she feels.

i still think "Tilted" & the "Beaster" e.p. are perhaps the best things Bob Mould has done.
had a chance to catch SUGAR live circa 1994.. amazingly clean sound, wall of amps, power trio, LOUD.. all in full effect. dope.

Re: punk rock
Husker Du were definitely in my top 3 or so... and as much as I do like the Bob Mould solo stuff incl. the first Sugar LP, I always tended to like Grant Hart's stuff a little more most of the time. Anybody heard the Nova Mob "Admiral of the Sea" EP?
