Not very surprised. Tend to describe myself as a libertarian as well as a secular humanist when it comes to general philosophy on life and stuffs.

Libertarianism is here used to denote anti-"authoritarian statism". Most "libertarians" you refer to are anti-state and are nowhere near center anyway. This is a Nolan-chart, it was created by a libertarian and it was created because left/right are bullshit denominations for politics anyway that don't fully encompass someone's ideology (both liberals and socialists were "left-wing"; Batiat was a "left-winger" while he laid the foundation for Austrian economics, which in turn laid the foundation for the modern an-cap movement).

"Libertarian" did used to mean an-com for a while, but it was co-opted by propertarians because New Dealists co-opted 'liberal'. Besides, even in the early stages of the modern anarchist movement, there were some pro-market, pro-property and individualist streaks that later laid the foundation for anarcho-capitalism/voluntaryism.

At this point in time, as in, not the early 20th century, in most of the west 'libertarianism' is usually used to refer to "capitalist" ideologies (regardless of what Chomsky might have you believe) and it's neither "left" nor "right" wing.
