yea i mean, i kinda have a problem with people calling the conflict childish or whatever. it took literally hundreds of millions of deaths to get 50 years of peace in europe, why do people think the middle east would be any different? see relative stability in the US now and you'd think it'd been aeons since any colonial land acquisition or intractable race hatred had plagued it. i think it's easy to say its childish when it's not your politics

Re: Confused by Israel Situation
that's kind of a dickhead thing to say. That's like saying "there are some palestinians who welcome the Israeli aggression" referring to the Hamas folks who use it to further agenda. Very misleading bordering on falseGenevieve wrote:Massive oversimplification. There were zionists who were pushing for this long before WWII, some who even WELCOMED WWII. Jews were already moving to the land long before that.Terpit wrote:Its essentially the West's fault there's a conflict at all tho, should we not try and right our wrong?deadly habit wrote:deadly habit wrote:Let the region sort itself out without any foreign intervention.
And even if we did fuck something up... how could we fix it? We're not there, we're not the Palestinians, we're not the Israelis. We're just a third party.... We only know what we're told and what we see, but we have no direct experience with what's best for the people living there.
And do you trust our governments, the same ones who've been pretty consistent of their backing of Israel, to suddenly change their mind and be objective about this? And heck, dis is the middle east. One landmass floating on oil. You can't expect western involvement with at least some pay-off.
Our governments made a mistake, but there's no need to let Israeli, Plestinian AND European/American citizens take the responsibility for it.

controlling middle eastern oil isn't to supply america tho, its to supply everyone else
america gets most of its oil from its own soil anyway
will just increase america's economic power

Not true. only about 40% comes from the US. We horde most of it and do not release it to the public right now.noam wrote:controlling middle eastern oil isn't to supply america tho, its to supply everyone else

What I meant by my comment is we are nearing the point where we will be large enough to control the price as we lessen imports/begin to export. OPEC controls prices because of how much they export. In 20 years the western half of the world will be self sufficient and the balance of power will be at a somewhat neutral point. I'm guessing north america will create their own opec as it seems Canada may have the same kind of oil we have
Re: Confused by Israel Situation
aye.... they're really just now grasping this whole shale shit right now.... can only imagine if North Dakota is one of the richest deposits ever found that canada has comparable gems in its landNevalo wrote:pkay wrote:southstar wrote:The west's economy is directly linked with what happens in the middle east though, so i wouldn't get your hopes updeadly habit wrote:The west needs to stop playing world police and sort out it's own damn problems.

yea, about 40% of the oil you consume is 'homegrown' thats far greater than the percentage of oil you use which comes from say latin america or the middle east
but yeah i do get your point, mine wasn't especially relevant

something else to consider in all this: The rocket attacks aren't as sparatic as you think. The word is Iron Dome is intercepting about 90% of the rockets fired.... As of today they estimate 460 intercepts in the month of november. That's about 24 attacks a day. 1 an hour.
