something positive out of this mess

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/m ... -not-drugs
DJ Rashad died as a result of a blood clot, not drugs
Family say coroner's report shows a clot that started in his leg led to the footwork/juke pioneer's death

• The information in this story was supplied in good faith by Hyperdub Records. We have since been told the detail concerning cause of death may not be accurate. We will update when we know more.

The footwork/juke pioneer DJ Rashad died as a result of complications arising from a blood clot in his leg, his UK label Hyperdub has told the Guardian.

Initial reports – including the Guardian's – repeated Chicago police's suspicion that a drug overdose caused Rashad's death on 26 April. However, his cousin has informed Hyperdub that the coroner has determined a blood clot that started in his leg led to the death. "Drug paraphernalia" that was found near his body related to marijuana rather than hard drugs.

Rashad, who was 34, had apparently complained about an ache in his leg, but because of his young age, no one considered the possibility it might be life-threatening.

Rashad – real name Rashad Harden – had been one of the leading lights in Chicago's footwork/juke scenes. His last album, Double Cup, was ranked eighth in Rolling Stone's best dance albums of 2013, and was one of the Guardian's top 30 albums of the year.

Hmmm... maybe blood clot from sitting down and producing, flying all over the place. I know of a friend of mine got a blood clot flying, and another friend, 21 yo had a stroke, essentially a blood clot in the brain, from flying.

Then again, this is coming from his cousin. I've found cousins to be less than reliable.

Bare professional video game players get this.

why would flying or playing video games give you a blood clot or a stroke? cause you're sitting in the same position for too long?

This too.

You can reduce your chances of this kind of thing happening but you cant spend your life avoiding all risk, pointless life that would be.

You should go for a walk from time to time if you are producing all day for many reasons, but you do prob increase your risk of death by getting run over :6:

I honestly can't imagine the least risky life you could lead. Like what would that look like. Immediately I go to digitization and infinite reduplication, but even then, I think you stand a good chance of corruption and competition amongst all of your copies, leading ultimately to a consolidation that likely will destroy the nobler aspects of your algorithms, leaving only the most pernicious, which really is a form of death, and therefore highly risky.

Maybe if you could build some type of pod that could move into and exist in the center of the sun you'd be good for a bit, not a lot of shit makes it to a star's core I'd imagine.

:t:

There is shit that you can do to be healthier and happier, not the least of which is moving your body frequently.

one thing that's really nerve-wreckingly upsetting about this whole issue,
you tell someone that it's weighing heavy on you that your hero DJ Rashad passed away.
and an amazing amount of insensitivity occurs in exchange.

but telling how it makes you feel to a music head and then them responding with
"Yeah, I know, Sucks! Footwork isn't really my thing, don't care for it that much."

they might as well be saying.
"Yeah, I know, That Sucks! and I'm completely missing the point entirely."

it would be if god dies, and player haters's be like,
"Yeah, Sux! The almighty creator of the universe isn't really my thing, don't really care."

BIG UPS!

Except, the universe is something everyone cares because they're all directly apart of it. Footwork is a niche genre of music that really only directly affect at most a couple of thousand people in the whole world, half of which live in Chicago. It would be patronizing to pretend to be devastated by it to make someone who is actually affected by it happy.

It could be argued that it's unsensitive to expect everyone to like the same thing you like.

yeah, footwork totally only influenced a couple thousand people.
even if that statement were true, we didn't loose a pawn, or a knight, or a bishop, or a rook.

we lost the king man!

and given my personal affinity for his music and influence in urban underground culture.
I see where I would be overly sensitive about loosing one of my favorite producers.
it's devastating, it's a loss to everyone who has any appreciation for a grassroots sound.

and if one of my friends was all, :crybaby: james blake just died, I definitely wouldn't respond with, "Yeah, Sux, I'm not really the biggest fan of his music."

it's not patronizing to be compassionate.
