those experiments are made firing a 20hz frequency into a listeners ear.
I'm waiting for Loefah's next strictly 20hz tune (fuck mids and highs!!!! BRO) to drop soon on Swamp81

Seriously though, I suppose adding some water to the wine is needed. One can probably hear a 20hz sub bass yes in perfect conditions. But it's not as if there will be any musicality in these sorts of frequencies. I mean, imagine creating a 20hz bassline melody and adding mids and highs over it. Add to that that on any decent soundsystem, pretty much anything under a 100hz comes a cross as sub bass...
Sub bass should be there for physicality and to add depth to a track.
I mean, certainly I may have taken the piss there for a moment, but let's not kid ourselves here.

while there maybe less musicallity, you can still deffinitly hear its prescense, obviously the lower you go the more difficult it will be to hear if its even hitting different notes but its still there, obviously if you go under 20hz then you will only be able to feel it,
cinema sound systems can produce those low frequencies quite well for those rumbles/booms
