@ Darj love the delayed synth at the start. inrto is very nice, your production is good, i think i would turn the bass sounds down just a touch to let the drums come though a bit more, i like the bit crusher break down , your kick sounds a lil generic to me, you could try cut or turn down the higher freq's try phaten it up a bit.
@ hecticz, your 2nd attempt - i like the bass sounds even thou they are a bit messy , but your snare is almost non existent, try start you mix down from scratch, i think its your basses that are way to loud,

Here's a new WIP, featuring jazz instead of classical performances. Less dubbish but oh well:

@darkdubz: Usually I'm just here to review, but good call. There are alot of good tracks just a few pages back I would have missed.
@paradigm: Haha too true, my friend. I'm here to learn and improve, like I'm sure we all are.
@darj: Like the feel, especially the buildups and cymbal work. Bass is nice too. The only thing I would change is the levels of your synths. Personally, I would like them if they sat lower in the mix, maybe give em a little more bass. Other than that I think it sounds fine. Like the bitcrushing work too.
@hecticz: nice ambience. nice synth work. Not too keen on the vocals but hey that's just me. And it might just be my speakers but it seems like your lacking some mids. Other than that sounds very well done.
@samkablaam: from a producing soundpoint it sounds great, man. I don't really hear a melody or anything though? But you did a great job with the padding and ambience. Chill track as it is.
Anyway, Jazz/Hip-hop WIP:

@Sonic Arts I like the glitchy effect on the piano. Kept me interested. Something about it bothers me, though. Mixdown, maybe?
@Darj Sounds pretty solid. Except that hat in the beginning is a bit piercing in the high end. What instrument did you use in the intro that has that delay on it?
@samkablaam maybe some soft piano up in the higher end? idk I can hear it fitting well. Nice track though, sounds like it should be a movie soundtrack.
I think I'm going somewhere with this one, updated again:

I feel pretty good about taking out the arp and putting in that offbeat plucky synth.

jr i would really like to hear one of your beats, without all the high shit, it has a great vibe, the ear peircing notes just blow it for me.

Sonic Arts, Its really isnt that dubby. I think it needs a more prominent bassline with some kindof melody then it would get my head bobbin' a bit more
jrisreal, I think the arpeggio in the intro should have some deep lowpass filter sweeps and something else I cant quite figure out to give it more atmosphere. as for the bassline, not really my cup-o-tea but i think its mixed ok. the highs might need to come down a bit on the bass as well.
--------------------------------------------------
This is a new deeper kinda track Im working on. Let me know what you think

weedcali- i like the intro, and the bass, kick seems a little pushed back. perc seems tight. i would mix the shit out of this sound. sub is utter nonsense man. seems like im havin trouble with my sub as of late, the vox buah delay is nice. finish that track and send me a 320
sonic- beat is nice, the glitch threw me off at first but i quite like it now. bring the volume up some and its great, the change up at 45 is a little abrupt, not sure if it flows 100% . it might be the high note that carries on.

first thing ive been happy with in a couple months.

@ sonic , very interesting for sure, not really my thing, but i would try bring your drums up a lot more , and try cut some of the harsh freq's from that piano out. chur
@ weedcall nice intro =, i like the hi hats and the synths are nice. very deep tune. sub bass sounds sick, maybe turn it down just a touch. i like the clap. could defo zone out to the finished product bro.
@Biscult good idea bro, i like the big snare, sub bass is way to loud, but will sound sick once it sits in the mix better, nice vibe but a bit repetitive , keep at it
Heres A track ive been working on the last couple of nights, i'm stoked with it so far....

@Weedcali : Nice chill out tunes, maybe work on the hi hats, maybe work on the drum pattern too. Thats definetly a good track mate! Nice sub bass too, not too loud, not too weak, just perfect I think!
@Sonic : Thats not really my thing BUT the piano pattern is sick! I don't know why but it reminds me of old school Premier beat! Nothing bad to say.
@Darkdubs : The first sound of the intro is a little loud, maybe try to bring it down a bit. The sub bass sound pretty cool! Maybe work more the intro an its gonna sound dope! Anyway, thats some amazing work!
Here's mine again,

tehef, drums are way back its all synth, when it drops it sounds like every other doctor p, flux, imitator.. your gonna get further with original sounds. just being honest.

@oprs : Thanx man, I thought the same at the moment, thats where I struggle. Sound design. Maybe try to get a hand on massive or any other synth and drop operator for a while.

dont automatically reach for massive, its not magical, i stopped using it completely.
just sit around and learn as much as you can, its the only way your gonna get a concept of what you wanna do.
also, try thinking outside the box.
http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=196532
thats a sample pack that a guy collected of things around the house and various noises.
i made a song using just those and some subs, and one synth.
Soundcloud
im still 100% happy with that production more then alot of my other things, because i realize how much i crafted those sounds to get there.
learn to extend/shorten, reverb, delay, reverse, granulize everything. you would be surprised the things you can make with the sound of a zipper.
just practice, i sometimes delve into the brostep side. but if your gonna pursue it as the style you wanna produce always, just gotta make things pop out more and have a sound that says
OH MAN I KNOW WHO THAT IS, just by the collective sounds/techniques im hearing.
keep up the work, practice is practice bad or not.

@Darkdubz: Intro left me wondering what kind of production value you had up your sleeve, the drop let me know for sure you got the goods. Your kicks hats and snare have really good EQ as does all your bass synths. Great variation, blew my head away with that one man keep it up you are definitely on one.
@jrisreal: Your composition has all the right parts, maybe work a little bit on variation but you got the idea set. You definitely are going somewhere with that one. I felt like your plucks could be eq'd better maybe a little verb on them. I also felt like your hats or shaker or whatever could be EQ'd a little more for more effect. Great track though definitely work on that, maybe layer that bassline with another bass synth for added effect. Also work on your drop cause the build up wasnt bad but it could have been better.
@Sonic Arts: Sounds sweet dude. Definitely feel some southern/oldschool vibes on this track. Great piano work on there and I like when the beat switches up around half way, great work man.
This is my second dubstep wip post i appreciate the feedback from my first track but here is my new work.
Soundcloud
some stuff is louder than others i kinda rushed to export cause i was excited to upload.
bass synth was a maelstorm with some filter messing around, used some of the new distance rex files on the rhythm pattern, also on the lead that is kinda like a pad
Haven't surfed in a couple weeks trying to focus on production...

@weedcali This has, in some way that I can't seem to understand, an intense sort of feel while still being laid back. I think it's the edginess of the lead synth, like the distortion maybe. But it's COOOOOOL, I'd like to listen to more of your music if it's mostly this stle of mellowed out dubs. Personally it's not my cup of tea but you did something very interesting with the mixing here that I can't quite put my finger on.
@darkdubz I really like your drums man, they sound very crisp and bouncy. My kinda shit. Overall our track was great. It lacked a little bit of energy but still kept me interested. I would say it's missing something but not sure what it is. The second drop was NICE. I'm curious to what process you used to create your synths.
@crakasteven Your track has a very deep hollowed out feel to it. Great mixing overall. it could use a little more melody as I got a bit bored with it after a little while but i love the intro you did. that riff is catchy.
um this is my new work in progress... I really didn't even start mixing it yet. I don't have monitors either so the mix is probably shit. I'm going to add some kind of sonic the hedgehog stuff at the drop. let me know if you like it and what I could do to improve

Thnx!!

So, I don't have studio monitors, I have to go to my truck and listen to my song over and over.. and now my speakers are blown in my truck, so I can't heart it..
The problem I was having before was the highhats were really fuzzy sounding. I wasn't sure how to fix it, but I tried a few things. If someone can listen to this that has some studio monitors, that would be awesome. Constructive criticism please!

@jrisreal: I actually like the high pitched synth a lot. I would say that instead of making the drums so quiet in the intro you could make the hits shorter. This is often done in electro house for intros and stuff. I'm not sure how you are programming your drums but when I do it I just cut the midi for the kicks and snares in half, if that makes sense. Maybe add another pad(ish) layer at the drop to sort of fill up the empty space.
@darkdubz: I LOVE IT! The drop is super fat and I love the main bass sound. The siren is great too. Not much I can criticize dude, awesome stuff. Only thing I can say is maybe turn down your higher pitched hats and cymbals a bit, to me they sound a bit too bright. Amazing job so far though.
@Crakasteven: Love the perc, especially in the intro. The bass could use a little more bottom end I think. I really like the ascending mallet/pluck type sound you have going on. This track has a sweet, eery sort of vibe that I definitely like. Good job so far dude!
Here's mine. It's primarily electro house, but it has two dubstep(ish) sections. I'm still mixing and mastering and such. The song needs more variety in the section right after the first drop I think. Thanks for listening!

@ TE HE 9 thanks for the feed back bro,do you mean the siren sound to loud ? as for your tune.... nice atmos in the build up, i find your kick a lil to loud, love that drop it kicks in in a weird way, i guess thats intentional?? i think overall you could bring the mid bass down a touch to let the drums punch though a bit more. love the samples bro.
@Cracasteven thanks for the kind words bro, im loving your intro thats for sure, YEA nice nice one bro, thats some dark and moody shit, i really dig you shuffle , i would add a snare with a bit more punch, althou i really dig your snare as it is, overal some very nice stuff going on here,
@Ben Jones hopfuly its lacking at the mo because ive left heaps of head room in my mix, once i master it i hope it will hit home a bit harder, bro i just layer my basses hard out, i make a patch that im happy with then layer the shit out of it, i guess having a powerful mac with 8g ram i can have shit loads of instruments open, really its just a lazy way of resampling, but i find the dynamics can be better this way, oh and its all about the fx chain,
I dig you track bro, the intro was a bit weird, but the tune its self is cool, keeps it interesting, as you know your mix downs not to good so i won't comment on that, but if it was mixed well it will be a great tune.
@NorCO cool thanks for the FB ive taken that on board, drums sound phat bro, not my thing but good vibe here, vocals sit real well, really good production , yea now its kicked in i am digging it, dubstep meets electro, sick
