Nah I think there is some truth to what you're saying, I've noticed it as well. Not necessarily that Americans are dumber or anything, I just think irony and sarcasm tend to be more exaggerated and extreme in the US, so when they encounter more subtle forms of it I think it often goes over their heads

yeah american humour seems very different to u.k humour, when i was in cali i went to some comedy night and the comedian was telling such straight forward boring jokes, obviously could of been the comedian being shit but everyone else in the crowd was loving it. Also when talking to people if i used any sarcasm as a joke or anything i'd just get a blank stare not even a pity laugh. Although i think in cali the sun fucks with peoples brains everyone seems a bit weird, after a month i came back and felt like 50% retarded.

Yeah well we suffer from the boom of boring observational comedy over here right now. I think yeah American's are in general less about the dry and subtle sarcasm though. Don't mean that as a negative thing or anything
