@melodik: sweet track man,the vocal is really nice. did you record it or is it a sample? the synths are all really simple, but produced perfectly. even tho the parts are all minimal, it never gets monotonous, so kudos on the arrangement.

@mookz: from the examples I would guess you've not been producing for very long yet, everything sounds very raw at the moment, kinda lacking in power and impact and texture, but you've def got the basics down, its just a matter of honing your craft. you just need a few years of geeking out over sound quality and synthesis. also try to extend your ideas to around 5 minutes-ish. it'll force you to get more creative with structure and arrangment

@vulvavibration: overall the track lacks power in sound and drive in the energy. snare is way too diffuse..it needs some upfront punch....maybe layer it with a completely dry short sound to give it impact, like a dark rimshot or something. sub seems pretty muted to me as well, so maybe your monitoring situation has you sitting right in the middle of a big node...also, i think the track needs some more atmosphere in it, even if its just well done reverbs and delays on the percussion. try mixing it with the volume low and see if you can make it heavy with loads of impact at a quieter level. i think the percussion part is a bit too wonkey, and it feels like it needs something to propel it forward...maybe try some more steady 16th note-ish high hats to counter balance the off time feel of the perc and kick

hey, great. thank you for this really informative feedback.

i have been thinking about the 16th-high hats. but didn't do it in the end (less is more-principe :D) i'll try it once more.

the snare seems to me also not really punchy enough. i'll try out your suggestion with the rimshot
sub seems pretty muted to me as well, so maybe your monitoring situation has you sitting right in the middle of a big node.
thats the thing... i'm getting mad about it. at the studio everybody tells me the sub is just great. blasts you away, has enough variations and so on. but as soon as i play it on any other system it loses it's power :(

@ Reignz
nice tracks!! try bring your drums out mix, maybe highpass the synths a bit more to make space for the drums. and remember always..less is more, wobble is good but try bring some more space between them!

@ Knobgoblin
phat tune for damn sure!!! really like the effects on the vocal...that dblue?? yeah that vocal I used was a sample, its from that Faithless song "We become one"

onetime for the positive words though!!!!

Yo. I'm not really sure about my levels and maybe a little worried about the sub frequencies on this track. If I could get some feedback on it, it'd be awesome. Sorry about the audio watermark shit. Cheers.

imho too much wobble. leave some space. as someone said before: less is more :)
mixdown is quite good as far as I can tell. though i'm not listening over the monitors.
but still, it has quite good pressure.

Think the sub is too heavy. Is on my set up anyway. Regardless, awesome track, everything else sounds pretty nice to me.

@100man:
When you are prducing your track in a software program, like fruity loops and what not, when you export the track, rendering, select 320 as the mp3 quality. Its probly set as 128 if you haven't changed it i would think.

yeah i didn't really want it to build up to a big thing like, i wanted to keep it like dark and minimal, and a bit like empty. and hmm, i thought there was a nice bit of sub in it, maybe my speakers aren't up the the right kind of scratch. but yeah cheers anyway, much appreciated

i can't seem to find anything on mp3s, i'm using reason 3 like, it just seems to let you export as either a wav which you can pick the quality of, or an AIF file...? AIFF? i dunno what it's called...

here's my attempt at reaching the distant lands of drum an bass. it's not great like cos i'm more of a dubstep / 4 to the floor man myself, it would be a rare occurance that i bought music near the 170 bpm mark. but anyway, tell me what you think

@100man: download iTunes. its super convenient for converting files to different formats. import it into your music library, go to preferences and go to import options. select mp3 and change the bitrate from automatic to 320. right click on the file and select create mp3 version
