I watched the first 2 Mushishi last night, was surprised how gentle and subtle they were, but beautifully done. I normally go for the sci fi or action ones but this is a nice change of pace.

Tracked down the film as well so will watch that afters.

i need a new recommendation!!!!, i liked mushi-shi, and all the studio ghibli's (esp miyazaki's shtuff), also stuff like karos and even the final fantasy movies, def digg the cowboy bebpop, samurai shamploo, afro samurai, eureka 7 & full metal alchemist was dope, tenchi muyo was aight, jus like yu-yu-hakasho was, i liked outlaw star & tri-gun,

once upon a time was corny as shit, and the inyuyasha movies are nothing but the equivelent of what a futurama movie is like to its series (plot-wise)


so with those being said, whats out there that i havent seen that i should have already??

Check out DNA Squared,.. seriously.
A bit shojo but theres a god amount of action, and the plot is really good. Its only 15 episodes as well.

Anyone watch death note n bleach?? Prolly my favourite anime... Death Note kills it for the story liine and the fighting in bleach is sick

Try and find 'Now and Then, Here and There'. It's a 13 episode series and one of the best I've seen.

The english adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's Monster finished this month, so we started the anime. We're about 14 episodes in (out of 74). It's pretty much a shot for shot retelling of the manga. Riveting stuff - highly recommended.

ye, really liked this for the most part. perhaps a bit over long, i felt there were times when some of the tangents were a bit unnecessary, but overall has a good story and great atmosphere. the soundtrack by kuniaki haishima is great. have you read 21st century boys, also by Urasawa?

DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM!!! It's boring as fuck, doesn't make a lot of sense and generally disgraces the series of which i'm an enormous fan.

Personally been catching up on a lot of bleach lately as i didn't watch it for about a year. On about 170 now. More fillers. Agh!

agree about the Monster soundtrack - really like the glitchy one that kicks in during the tense moments! agree about the tangents, but i thought they just about worked (rather than being pointless filler) - and ultimately helped to flesh out the characters a bit more. Saying that - can't understand why more wasn't made of Lunge's back story.

i saw Jin Roh. it's been a while since i watched it, but don't expect much action. from what i remember it was heavy on the 'sitting about on swings and philosophising' side of things. I'll watch it again (i think i felt let down slightly after the sheer massiveness of the Patlabor films). i've got the live action version (part of a trilogy that includes The Red Spectacles and the Jin Roh animated movie) on LD but haven't watched it yet.

ye, the gits reworking is minimal so not worth a purchase unless you're a serial, maniacal fan.

re: the monster ost, more into the scored orchestral stuff in terms of a sit down listen, though i agree the glitchy/paranoia music has a good atmosphere about it.

ye, i kinda expected jin-roh to be a 'verbal' film. will check it at some point but it's blatantly one i'm gonna have to be in the right mood to watch.

any other movie recommendations? I've seen all the 'main' feature length animes (ie. the ghiblis, the satoshi kons, the old manga video releases, etc), though having said that any recommendation is welcome.

whoops, i meant 20th century boys btw, 21st is just a shorter epilogue type series. 20thCBs is amazing though, reckon you'll enjoy it when[ever] it comes around.

I finished the series the other night, really impressed. Is there anything with a similar atmosphere from the past 4/5 years worth looking for?

I tried watching the film, but I picked a copy withough subs so just deleted it.

I read some good reviews of Code Geass so have grabbed the first series, apparently it takes a while to get going but is worth it.

19 eps into Blood+ at the moment, it's pretty good so far.

mushi shi is the nuts, was seriously impressed with that series, visually amazing and very deep storyline. and you can read the manga on www.onemanga.com. i wudnt bother with the live action film, even tho it was directed by the creator of akira it was dry

u can get the dvd but shinsen subs did a big job on subbing

and people, pls dont watch dubs! american b movie actors ruin all anime, stik to the subs

and as for naruto not being subbed by dattebayo anymore, fuck em, we're getting em as fast without em. they did good subbing but they were a pain in the ass, always putting up trolls and fuking with the viewers. good riddance

The film is deep, watched it with a group of about 4 people and everyone sat silent throughout and didn't know what to say at the end

good job you didn't watch the film. it just rehashes stories from various episodes, tries to tie them together, with various nonsense and no atmosphere. agree with what envoy said and think that signus and his mates must've been eating some really good mushrooms

code geass is supposed to be really good. but those character designs. hate. hate. hate. maybe if someone personally recommends it enough i'll try it.

ye, agreed here. Taka's subs have been the best so far, take a little bit longer to get done but it's worth waiting for the quality. I'm not as lost at sea without db as i thought i'd be. loving the story at the mo as well.
