Don't know how many tunes are getting pressed up, but I get the feeling that it's probably in the just over a thousand presses for most dubstep releases. As such, I doubt there's gonna be much reason to split an already small (though growing) scene further.

All for new flavas coming through though, so the more styles the better. Would be wicked to hear all dubstep at a dance regardless of subgenre rather than fragmentation at this stage.

When I heard the word "intelligent" in the genre name IDM, I just understood it to mean "complex / experimental / harder to dance to".


But the journos who came up with it probably genuinely thought that it was the opposite of "stupid" dance music.

That bit was aimed at a few people, and was just the vibe I'd been getting from a few posts.. ("I've been in dubstep this long, before anyone knew about it, you're not a true follower etc..")

It sounds like we agree then man. All I'm opposed to is calling stuff liquid and intelligent, it doesn't bother me that there's loads of different evolving sounds. Makes sense that people will choose to go down different paths - I'm pretty picky about what I like as well.

Innit. I said the same thing earlier in the thread. Best to leave that stuff to the journalists and let the producers get on with making their music.

only really feeling the liquid sinodub these days (and even then only the stuff that leans towards the breaksteppier side of the liquid sinodub scene).

to be honest there's only me and 3 other people in the world into this particular niche at the moment, so i'm all for this argument. means i might have someone to talk to.

I am my own scene. It's called Dougstep. Highly exclusive, especially the stuff that leans towards the breaksteppier side. Sometimes my cat wanders in when I'm making beats, so he becomes part of the dougstep massive by default, but to be honest apart from Fluffy and myself it's just above everyone else's heads I'm afraid.
