Please. One thread every couple of months that gets heated and it's DOA?

This is one of the most well moderated boards I know of and the community here is totally supportive.

C'mon Ben, you haven't had a record out, stfu :D

Don't know how many tunes are getting pressed up, but I get the feeling that it's probably in the just over a thousand presses for most dubstep releases. As such, I doubt there's gonna be much reason to split an already small (though growing) scene further.

All for new flavas coming through though, so the more styles the better. Would be wicked to hear all dubstep at a dance regardless of subgenre rather than fragmentation at this stage.

:D: couldn't have said it any better

When I heard the word "intelligent" in the genre name IDM, I just understood it to mean "complex / experimental / harder to dance to".

But the journos who came up with it probably genuinely thought that it was the opposite of "stupid" dance music. :|

So yeah... loaded terms. Ditch it.

fucking deep

this is a crazy thing, i was completely unaware that it existed! deep
Messiaen's music is pretty fucking intense, alot of it uses an early synthesizer from the 1920's which was powered by vacuum tubes (!!!!)

Check out his "Turangalila Symphony"...

Big up the librarystep masssssssif

Ben Mate, you're determined to make me draw for an essay aintcha?

Nope, I don't think I own this music, I'm in it, so I make it, and I
don't feel justified with my opinion 'because i've had a record out',
(was that really neccessary mate?), see what I mean?

'Dubstep' as we know it was a subgenre of GARAGE (I know you
don't want to hear that, but it's true), which was ultimately a subgenre
of House/Electro which was a sub genre of something else etc...
do you see where I'm going with this?

I'm not saying call it Intelligent or Liquid or whatever, we don't
need more names for it, it's hard enough as it is, get me?
Subgenres exist already, they just haven't had some journo
twat try to claim it for him/herself by giving it/them a NAME. :D
(So who coined the term 'Breakstep' then? Hmm, I bet it wasn't
someone making it, I've been called that, when I actually
thought I was making Dubstep, so boy, I got every right to call
what I do whatever I want)

All I'm saying is: You can't fcuk with evolution mate, it's what
brought THIS music about, so don't deny it.

Anyways, this thread's played out mate, so I'm out, Just thought
I had to defend myself as a certain someone thinks I got some
kind of superiority complex because I've had a release, Sheesh,
cmon mate,
shallow man drown in shallow waters.

OUT..........

I do like to talk sometimes :)

That bit was aimed at a few people, and was just the vibe I'd been getting from a few posts.. ("I've been in dubstep this long, before anyone knew about it, you're not a true follower etc..")

It sounds like we agree then man. All I'm opposed to is calling stuff liquid and intelligent, it doesn't bother me that there's loads of different evolving sounds. Makes sense that people will choose to go down different paths - I'm pretty picky about what I like as well.

I like garage too btw :)

Innit. I said the same thing earlier in the thread. Best to leave that stuff to the journalists and let the producers get on with making their music.

only really feeling the liquid sinodub these days (and even then only the stuff that leans towards the breaksteppier side of the liquid sinodub scene).

to be honest there's only me and 3 other people in the world into this particular niche at the moment, so i'm all for this argument. means i might have someone to talk to.

I am my own scene. It's called Dougstep. Highly exclusive, especially the stuff that leans towards the breaksteppier side. Sometimes my cat wanders in when I'm making beats, so he becomes part of the dougstep massive by default, but to be honest apart from Fluffy and myself it's just above everyone else's heads I'm afraid.

dunno bout you lot...haven't been following the drizzle on here...

but liquid sounds are sick...

just listen to makoto's podcast on itunes...

lovely beats.

not everything has to be dark and moody.

maybe its for an older crowd...

trust me it would sell for those producers out there...

nothing long
