If you're still listening to Rinse despite the fact that they're trying to fuck Deapoh over, what kind of message does that send out? "Yeah you guys are cynical and ruthless businessmen, but since you have so many good DJs on rotation, we're just gonna have to swallow our pride." This basically means that since Rinse has such a stranglehold on dubstep radio in general, they can do as they wish, as the people are willing to compromise on principles in order to get to hear their favourite DJs. That's not the right signal to send out if you ask me..
i don't think it's a matter of compromising your principals at all...

i've got quite a few rinse sessions as it is (all thanks to deapoh and barefiles btw) that, along with my cds, records, the various other dubstep and grime shows and my other musical preferences, keeps me satisfied, and i could quite happily not listen to rinse for a while, i'm not one of those people who needs to hear fresh dubs every week anyway....

the point is that deapoh has already stipulated that the decision to 'fuck him over' was made by sarah and geeneus, and sarah and geenues alone. so why should the djs and producers súffer for something they had no part in ?

i'm feeling the idea of boycotting some of their services but not rinse as a whole, regardless of how disappointed i am at what they've done. nothing to do with compromising principles, merely being pragmatic, and not making rash decisions that will ultimately have an adverse effect on the djs and producers i love to listen to.

very good point, pompende... it's so nice to have the archives available.
but blaitantly i'll still listen to rinse whenever i can...

i'll still reach fwd whenever i can...

and i'll still buy tempa records whenever i can...

simple because, like it's been said before, i don't think the artists should suffer because of the business/politics side of things...all the artists that associate themselves with ammunition still get my full support regardless of this whole fiasco. and i think when guys like skream turn up to support new events like the platform 1 thing thursday just gone...they deserve every last bit of our support n'all.

like ben said, it's matter of expressing your distaste on a subject you feel pretty strongly about in the hope that those that actually made the decision take note and acknowledge your disapproval. no hate or band wagon jumping from me...

in fact, i'm off to buy some records right now...might even pick up some new tempa plates

It's also worth mentioning that Ammunition and the people behind it have done more than a lot for the sound over the years. It was passion for music and not for money coz there was very little to be made. Without Ammunition and the people involved the term 'dubstep' would not have been applied to the dark 2step garage which led to what we're all listening to now.

i think we have all made it clear several times over that tempa/ammo is in the wrong with what they did.

the question now is what can we, their market, do about it, or what should we do about it?

i definitely wont be listening to the podcasts, but i am still not sure what can be done about this. surely there's something, everyone on this forum is a huge amount of people and a huge portion of the dubstep market.

of course people have brought up boycotting but i am not sure if that makes sense to do.

True. They played a massive part in its rise but we cant just sit around and watch them destroy it.

Time for an explanation, and to be honest i wouldnt be suprised if they back down.

A point that comes to mind... if I were to continue with Ammunition / Tempa as a going concern under existing management I would be very happy to let Deapoh continue to build the brand for free.

However, if I were readying Ammunition / Tempa / Rinse for a trade sale as a specialist record label / download service / Internet radio station, then I might not have the luxury of maintaining old relationships. If the business development people from a mid-tier media firm were to analyse Ammunition's business for a potential purchase, they might not be comfortable with Barefiles impacting the potential of the download service.

This is pure speculation but I imagine Ammunition's founders require an exit strategy at some point...

This whole argument from Heny G about "i dont feel we should suffer becuase ov polotics" is pretty weak in my opinion.
You dont have to stay with Rinse. You could switch over to Sub FM or React FM (Heny even used to DJ for React so that shouldnt be a problem).
But if you're a DJ, and you continue to DJ for Rinse, you're basically saying you support Sarah and Geeneus' decisions.
Rinse is not your only option.

my word isnt management but ive seen it from both sides and nothing malicious was intended from either side, its a difficult situation and different options were approached but no agreement could be made

barefiles and rinse worked well together cause barefiles gave more exposure to rinse and its djs and rinse gave the opportunity for deapoh boomnoise etc to have more mixes to host on barefiles

its a shame that this harmony was disrupted but the confilict is down to the fact that eventually the rinse sets had to start coming from the rinse website, this is old news to both sides.
i've used barefiles for as long as its been around and personally all i want is the mixes wherever they come from and barefiles was around when no one else was recording, which was essential, but if rinse needs its own site to be the only outlet for their mixes then its their right whatever the sacrifices have to be made by other sites.
its for the same reason why we click 'play again' on the radio 1 site rather than using a download site. barefiles would kindly delay its uploads for those shows for a few days to get the hits counted.
for those unaware, rinse has an ongoing petition to go legal

its not a pretty subject, i dont know what the outcome will be but barefiles wont be knocked, expect growth and solid progression from barefiles and rinse, regardless of the conflicts that we have to deal with

untold respect due deapoh.
in my opinion dubstep has always been people music weather inna dance or at a house party, or on your head phones on a bus listening to a fresh set recorded the night before. lets keep it that way
rinse may have the best sets and banter from the dj's but fuck that if the djs moved to another station then the sets they play are not goin to suddenly get worse. If certain rinse djs had any respect for the people who love and buy their music, im sure a change of station would be seen in good light.
ammunation has grown the scene, but has it helped as much as barefiles?
it kills off one of the best things about dubstep, swapping sets and chatting n shit about them to your mates. waste.
im saying torrent sites are the way fwd.

Yeah, Sub FM is internet only, but it too is not the only option. Also, your post is a bit "londoncentric" in my opinion.

Gutted for you, Deapoh. Your work of the last while is definitely appreciated by me, fuck knows if I would have ever got into the sound without Barefiles.
