Coming from someone who got into dubstep via elitism, brostep deserves so much more credit than it's given.

I was 'brought up' hating on any dubstep which uses crazy robot sounds or shit like that. Pretty much most wobble that isn't subbass. Hating on midrange, shit like that, Circus, Rottun, Dubpolice. But honestly once I got enough exposure to shit like that you find stuff that's quality even though it's fucking ridiculous and different than the 'elitist' praised artists. I should probly give some examples of what I mean by 'elitist': Zomby, DM, iTAL tEK, Shackleton, Ramadanman, Untold, Burial, Martyn, Mount Kimbie, James blake blah blha blah. Certainly no Caspa or Rusko.

So if I like those artists I'm elitist? What a weird way to look at life

When you say you were brought up to hate stuff, may I ask by whom?

Is someone elitist if they don't like country music, or is it ok to have different tastes without being labeled as such? Hmmmm

This is the thing that pisses me off. I listen to "Zomby, DM, iTAL tEK, Shackleton, Ramadanman, Untold, Burial, Martyn, Mount Kimbie, James blake" because I like them. I don't listen to the Circus/Dubpolice crew, because I haven't heard anything I like.

What do you want? For me to listen to stuff that I don't like to please you, which was the OP's issue in the first place, or listen to the stuff that I do like, regardless of who makes it?

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME? :crybaby:

No, I'm saying in some cases people don't give tearout artists a fair shake and that's elitist. I wouldn't call myself an elitist and I wouldn't call anyone an elitist solely because they like those artists.

Not saying everybody listens to those artists because other people like them and they don't. I wouldn't listen to that stuff if I didn't like it.

I didn't say that and I'm not mad, a lot of you are taking this as a personal attack and you shouldn't. I'm not attacking your taste. I'm not a follower of ntype or excision or whatever, don't even have any tearout on my computer.

All I'm saying is blindly dismissing all such artists as crap that takes no skill to make is narrow minded. Their work should get a little more merit from non drunk bros.

But no one is blindy dismissing anything. I've listened, I've given it a chance. I was just bored of that sound in 06 so it's hard to get into it five years down the road. Not a lot of staying power in those tunes imho

Yeah, this is the reason I don't have copies of many of these tracks. But Rottun, for one has been releasing a lot of good, batshit insane dance music and I am not going to dismiss its credibility just because it's not sophisticated enough.

My basic point was that although I got into the genre shunning this stuff, I realized that it isn't so bad.

it's not cool to be a dubstep fan if everyone is a dubstep fan... if your scene becomes too big you get lost amongst the crowd and those sad people I mention feel like they've lost their identity.

Most rational people understand that mainstream music is mainstream because it strikes certain nerves amongst people and can discern that the dubstep scene and the mainstream dance scene are two entirely different things.
^^^ This is exactly where my head was at when making this thread. Whether YOU feel this way or not, these TYPES of people are common in the dubstep genre. My question, is why?

You say you agree with pkay that sad people use their taste to define them and there's your answer. They're sad. Why do you care so much about what these people think? Let them "hate" and just continue listening to what you like.
