Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
Noticed there's been some griping going on towards how the competition is run. First of all I am the only one running this competition, I manage all the tracks, and make the graphics been doing it since 14 and I am always looking to improve.
Briefly, we had a panel which consisted of some of the top heads here on DSF (Legendary, Macc, etc.) whom assisted with voting. Honestly, I felt that this was the best way and it was fair towards all the entries. In addition, i've always been talking about getting prizes (choice of release, t-shirt, vinyl etc.) but uncertain about the distribution policies towards this. As mentioned earlier I am looking for artists and anyone else who is willing to commit to future competitions, I know that there has been some dodgy business in the past but its no reason to stop the competition.
Big up to all those entries and please get at me if you are interested in creating art work or assisting in some way in the next competition. As for the rest lets get another vote on whether or not we should re-introduce the panel!
Cheers.

None of the issues have anything to do with you or the way this comp is run.
I have no objection to a panel of judges.
As long as this doesn`t exclude the rest of us from voting in a controlled manner.
And again, keep up the good work.
It`s much appreciated.

I do - once you introduce judges, you introduce personal taste. And once personal taste gets involved, certain sub genres of the sound may get unfair treatment, either preferential or otherwise.

Agreed, that is why I stated that I have no objections as long as we can all vote as well.wub wrote:Electric_Head wrote:I have no objection to a panel of judges.

If everyone can vote, then why have a panel at all?
Bottom line - the poll needs to be brought back in house so that multiple voting (in the manner that may have occured this time round) is no longer possible.

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
another idea would be to have some form of control over who votes. i.e - if a dsf account hasn't been used since the last competition, and suddenly appears just to vote... maybe the vote should be discarded? just allow active members to vote only.

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
of course it is. thats why some tunes had multiple votes before we'd even heard them....Electric_Head wrote:This poll is fine when it`s in-house.

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
As was explained, Haack had listened to the tracks and voted.VirtualMark wrote:of course it is. thats why some tunes had multiple votes before we'd even heard them....Electric_Head wrote:This poll is fine when it`s in-house.
Those that voted before the tracks were up had nothing to do with guys voting numerous times.
That`s just stupid to vote for nothing.
Can`t blame Haack or DSF in any way for that.

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
And it could have been avoided if the tracks were released on deadline anyway.Electric_Head wrote:As was explained, Haack had listened to the tracks and voted.VirtualMark wrote:of course it is. thats why some tunes had multiple votes before we'd even heard them....Electric_Head wrote:This poll is fine when it`s in-house.

I've not got a problem with the way haack has run anything. Shit happens and I understand deadlines can be missed. The main problem here was the voting system that replaced the forum's one. It was hugely flawed and when things went tits up people were quick to point the fingers at people for cheating.
This can all be avoided in the future if the tracks are released on time and the voting is kept within DSF. Simple

Which is how it's been handled the previous 30 times.

As a first time entrant I have no idea how its been run previously, I can only base my opinions on this particular contestwub wrote:Sparxy wrote:This can all be avoided in the future if the tracks are released on time and the voting is kept within DSF. Simple

Anyway if this is the case why was the voting system changed then?

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
Cheers bud. I called it beta as i thought it was an unfinished mess lol, glad someone liked it.Sparxy wrote:BTW Mark I thought Beta was sick, i've no idea how you got those sounds out of the samples provided, good work
I mangled the samples so much, have a massive folder of weird sounds i created from those samples and just picked out a few. did the usual transient shapers/pitch/envelope etc to change the drums and also used single cycles of waves from some of the sounds loaded into kontakt. and lots of automation.

Haack was trying to get it sorted as quick as he could.

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
BTW in case anyone gives a crap my track is rainy sun.
Its mastered too quiet and its not even dubstep so i guess i should not be surprised it didn't get any votes lol
i'd like to thank sonic the hedgehog for inspiration
now group hug
there we go.

Re: DSF SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION-31
Alright, leaving it to entries to vote leaves room for cheating as well, especially when you have multiple votes, so there has to be a line drawn somewhere. As much as it is great to get a chance to vote, having a panel would be fair and like last time I ensured a set of guidelines for the panel which really looked at each track, critiqued, and not only voted for production quality but interest and creativity as well.
