ha! for some reason my computer suddenly remembered it can actually work (post cleaning...) Got it running really smoothly on 1280x1024 with high graphics. So much nicer to play!
Anyway, then had my first little story!
I started out somewhere in the middle of nowhere (never know where i am) but basically stumbled on a barn with 2 bodies in it, loads of supplies and a sniper rifle. I then panicked, surrounded by zombies and just fled silently for the woods. troopsed about for a while, but ended back up in cherno i think. Wanted to find me a map, and wandered in carefully, eventually spotting a massive lookout tower and figuring it just had to be done. Climbed up it, and after a few mins spotted someone. The guy was being chased by a good 4/5 zombies and just running, but we watched him run into a total deadend on a pier thing. Busted out our human decency and just picked em all off from up in the tower. Was awesome. However, the noise attracted zombies...loads of em. And first fecking shock THEY CLIMBED UP THE HUGE LADDER lol scared me shitless. Bombed it down the ladder and ran for it. For ages. Picked up a good dozen zombies, and once all ammo was run out, down to the last 5 zombies i got stuck tryin to get ammo out of a body and was eaten by the hungry fuckers. Was fun though, i hope that guy realised how heroic we tried to be lol

so you have say a 2 day run all sorts of cool shit type it up in best narrative style, i come up with a guitar bs like campfire playing (sorry i play by ear and mess about)
and do the whole thing dramatic narrative wise like shit i'm know for
and who knows maybe post a thread on main boards
Soundcloud for a full bs thread

Seems pretty fun.

technically the only thing you need to buy is Operation Arrowhead
you can use Arma 2 free with it
if you want better models etc then the DLC is in order
but I will say this Arma is an awesome game on it's own which shouldn't be overlooked, and honestly I hope people play it more now rather than just buy it for this mod

The actual arma really doesnt seem to be my sort of game. I like the whole diy mod aspect of it, and the attention to detail and sheer size and quality of the map is utterly outrageous, but ive never been drawn to military sims. Just not my cup of tea really.
now, add zombies and im fucking THERE
Speaking of which, you around for some zombie fun deadly? Im just about to get on it, might break out this headset too, see if i can get it working.

wiggle just told me it got updated and oh boy look at this changelog
HOTFIX : 21 MAY 2012
Affected addons:
* dayz_code 1.5.8.2
Changelog:
* [FIXED] Loosing temperature way too fast
* [FIXED] Not enough wood available for spawn
* [FIXED] Matches way too rare
* [FIXED] Reduced impact of infection (coughing amount and blood loss, will only loose 2000 blood)

HOTFIX : 21 MAY 2012
Affected addons:
* dayz_code 1.5.8.1
______________________________________
UPDATE : 21 MAY 2012
Affected addons:
* dayz_code 1.5.8
* dayz_equip 1.2.4
* dayz_sfx 1.1.1
* dayz 1.2.5
* dayz_weapons 1.1.1
Developer's Note:
* TO INTERACT WITH MOST ITEMS: YOU NOW NEED TO OPEN GEAR MENU (G) THEN RIGHT CLICK ON THE ITEM! SUCH AS BANDAGING AND EATING AND SHIT
* This is a pretty major update. I don't really know what affect the new sickness and temperature system will have on player behavior especially with antibiotics being so scarce.
* It is the genesis of an idea, so please remember this might cause havoc. You need to be careful.
* To light a fire, you need matches and wood in your inventory. Place more wood in the inventory of a fireplace to keep the fire going.
* A fire that does not have wood in it will go out when you try to light it.
* You can tell you have an infection, because your character will start coughing. The infection causes you to loose blood down to a minimum of 6000. This leaves you with reduced blood until you take antibiotics.
Changelog:
* [NEW] Server cleanup system replaced with a more agressive one
* [NEW] Inventory Interaction system (right-click on items in gear screen to bring up interactions)
* [NEW] Temperature System now implemented (effects are limited)
* [NEW] Chance of catching an infection the lower your temperature
* [NEW] Chance of catching an infection from already infected players
* [NEW] Water can be filled in ponds, all water pumps, wells, but not the sea
* [NEW] Forced disconnection saving for abort and alt+F4
* [NEW] Zombie's will investigate player deaths
* [NEW] Adrenaline rush from panicing causes greately increased hunger for a while
* [NEW] Bandaging Sound when bandaging yourself/someone
* [NEW] Coughing sound when you have an infection
* [NEW] Camera Shake when temperature drops extremely low
* [NEW] PROTIP: Use Global Chat/VOIP in populated areas
* [NEW] Fire requires wood to keep burning
* [NEW] Various Loot spawn balancing changes
* [FIXED] Should not be pellets for the Winny
* [FIXED] Whinny is way to powerful and quiet (mmmm your tears will be delicious)
* [FIXED] Helicopter loot despawning too fast
* [FIXED?] Too many zombies for the Carebears to be able to play
* [FIXED] Fog is way too thick
* [FIXED] Climbing a ladder with a pistol will cause you to fall
* [FIXED] Zombies not attracted to Flares and Chemlights
* [FIXED] Panic noises going apeshit all the time
* [FIXED] Zombie spotted alert far too quiet (increased slightly)

there is a free version of arma 2, all you need is op arrowhead, as far as pirating it goes dunno
as stated before it's $15 for combined ops atm on amazon (you just need to put in a US billing addy to get it for that you euro heads)
http://www.amazon.com/Meridian4-40365ne ... 499&sr=8-1 which is arma 2 and operation arrowhead

Cool, i'll pirate it first and if that fails $15 = £9.50, which i guess i can spare. I looked on the tutorial on the official DayZ site, it only mentions how to make it work on steam, i'm sure you probably explained in a previous post how to do it, but 196 posts... link? Thanks

yea lemme put it this way i'm kinda kicking myself for not waiting for a sale, but i paid $50 for the games and dlc and don't regret it one bit (just in the context of this mod)
this mod honestly shits all over the normal AAA ad campaign millions of dollar budget titles

Was going to purchase, but can't actually buy the download of Amazon, only available to US customers. Probs gonna have to get it on Steam because i can't find a healthy torrent. Steam bothers me.
